I use the delete all option all of the time Ed, I have Vista as well. I have never had the problem you are describing. Hope you can find a resolution!

Thanks Shredrex.

That is why this is mystifying. You and I are both on XPS systems with Vista installed(mine is Home Premium). I have not installed SP 1 because a Dell technician advised me to wait for the automatic update which is projected for mid-April.

Here is my setup – guitar + PODxt + XPS with Vista + GearBox + RiffWorks Standard. All drivers and software are updated.

Anyway, as I stated above, this has been a problem on two computers for the past few months. I don’t think the problem is with Vista since I have used that operating system successfully for over a year. Others here seem to have similar but slightly different “delete” problems.

Of course, one solution would be to get the riff right the first time.

That is truly odd, but to experience on it two different machines as well leads me think it may be the O/S. BTW I have home premium as well..... & I installed the SP. It caused me some problems, mainly involving my internet connection being as slow as molasses in January....but I managed to resolve it. That and my GP and ASIO4All drivers had to be reinstalled to get RWS to detect them....but other than that everything is A OK.

I hope you can get it all working Ed!

Hey guys, new here... I came to the forums because I've been having these problems for a while now and I thought there might be a fix.

I've discovered that's it's not just "Delete All" that causes RW to lock up this. Notice when you click "Delete All" a warning box pops up and a warning sound plays. Same thing when you try to delete a locked layer. This warning is what causes RW to lock up. I'm thinking it has something to do with the sound that plays causing some sort of conflict.

That being said, I'm no expert. I'm just hoping this info might help someone figure out a solution.

Cheers

Welcome erikrd! These are the best forums period and Sonoma Wire Works is a first rate and customer oriented company.

It seems as if several of us have had a delete issue and simply accepted it. Perhaps, this thread will call the matter to the attention of the SWW techs.

Hi epauley,

This is the first thread where I've heard of any problems revolving around Delete-All. I don't think this is a Vista problem either. I was pretty stumped until erikrd's response above. I think he might be on to something. I have a few questions I need for you to answer though before I can come up with a possible solution:

1. What Audio interface device are you using with with RiffWorks?
2. Are you using the manufacturer's drivers, or something else like ASIO4ALL?
3. What sound device do you have specified as your Window's default sound device?
4. Can you get RiffWorks to crash by clicking on the "MIX" button before you have any Riffs placed in the song timeline? Eg, a) Open RiffWorks, b) Click on "MIX" before doing anything else

Let us know,
Randy

Hi Randy,
My responses are embedded below

randy wrote:1. What Audio interface device are you using with with RiffWorks?
= PODxt

2. Are you using the manufacturer's drivers, or something else like ASIO4ALL?
= Line 6 divers

3. What sound device do you have specified as your Window's default sound device?
= ASIO PODxt in RWS
= Creative SB X-F ...when PODxt or RWS is not running

4. Can you get RiffWorks to crash by clicking on the "MIX" button before you have any Riffs placed in the song timeline? Eg, a) Open RiffWorks, b) Click on "MIX" before doing anything else
= When I select Mix as you suggest, the player/recorder stop working and RWS freezes - just like when I select Delete All

Try selecting the PODXT as your Window's default sound device and then try to get RiffWorks to crash.

Thanks,
Randy

The PODxt becomes the default device automatically when I boot up the POD and RWS. Selecting the PODxt as the default device is not an option when the PODxt is turned off.

OK, then try setting your Creative device as the default device while RiffWorks is running.

It's the "ding" sound from the menu pop-ups that's causing the crash. The "dings" work off the Windows default device and aren't routed through RiffWorks.

That resolved the issue!

After I followed your instructions, RWS worked fine – whether I selected “Mix” or “Delete All.” So, does this mean I must select the Creative device manually every time I am running RWS?

Hmmm…By the way, I was able to record while using the PODxt without opening GearBox. I didn’t think that was possible anymore.

I have been fighting this same problem also for a while now. I thought it was just me since no one else was complaning of it freezing up. I save all my songs on an external hard drive and thought it was the problem. I cant believe it was that simple. This will save me alot of time since I dont have to keep restarting riffworks. Now I just need the extra ram I orderd to show up. I run out of ram quick when using effects. and have to keep mixing to riff to keep it running smooth.

Thanks for the easy fix!!!
