Just got a toneport the other day sounds great. I love simplicity of riffworks. But im having problems with amplitube. I start up gear box i switch to dry signal go into amlitube get the sound i want. And then i start up riffworks. Heres where the problem occurs i get a message that says preference cant find hardware or audio device etc. Unfortantely it doesn't allow me to set the preferences to toneport to allow amplitube to record . Has anyone else ran into this problem. And how did u fix it ??

Tattoedsailor, are you opening Ampitube from within RiffWorks or trying to use the standalone version? You need to have RiffWorks Standard, and open Amplitube in the AMP tab under hardware effects to record with it.

open RW. See on the bottom where it says 'hardware' & 'effects'? Click on the hardware tab, the red cyber light should go off. You'll get a message about disabling hardware monitoring is a somewhat bad thing, click ok. Click on 'Effects', the red cyber led should light up.

Go to the AMP tab, the dropdown should bring up Amplitube 2 live if it is installed correctly. Click on that, this will bring up the Amplitube VST plugin and allow you access the models inside Riffworks. As long as the path of the VST (again under the AMP dropdown-set VST path) is correct, you should be able to hear Amplitube audio through your tone port ASIO.

You should be able to record with those 3 modelers supplied.

Thanks that explains it. Ive got demo version of riffworks and and standalone demo of amplitube 2. My question was mainly if its going work with toneport and recording. I just ordered the standard version from sweetwater. Just hasn't arrived yet.

Wow it worked thanks Charvel. F.... brilliant !

On a side note. I feel totally guilty about this but i haven't jammed on my amp all week. And I've got a awesome setup. But this computer setup is nutts. I cant get over how good this sounds(amplitube & gearbox) and flexibility. I was always under assumption that they could never get these amps sims to sound so "tube like". I stopped jamming in bands years ago. This setup is incredible for at home musician.

I have not had an amp in my home for almost 1.5 years...I too spent most of my time playing and recording using Gearbox....since I have no band to play live with....no need for an expensive dust collecting box on the floor right?

Although I do spend a lot of time talking about what I might buy.....lol

Gearbox and Amplitube are the bomb - absolutely amazing emulators and the sounds are what I would have killed for years ago.

Technology, gotta love it.

Yeah what gatorjj says is spot on, what they won't tell you is how long your 'new guy' status lasts? :)

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say I'll buy one for the new guy. Anyways, modellers are great. I've got some dusty old amps that don't get much use. Not because they don't sound great. But the amount of work involved to mic them up and it still doesnt always wind up sounding any better.

Mainly because I don't own all those amps they model and because they have modelled them in better recording environments than my own. I've got several recordings where if you isolate the guitar sound you can hear my wife and kid and tv in the background. Modelling is just fantastic for the home players.

I discovered a silly mistake I made by routing my soundcard (M-Audio FW410) through my amp. I have an old (old!!!) Peavey VTX classic 212, 65W, and I send my output into the effects return, bypassing the amp's solid-state preamp.

It sounds great. My guitar is nice and warm, especially with tube pre-amp presets with the ampsim (Amplitube or InTone).

Then, when I mix my songs and play them through monitor speakers... I lose all the warm amp niceness and wonder what I have done wrong. Silly me.

I don't want to be a sound engineer. I just want to play.

I really like the look of Gearbox. I want it!!! But I have a nice external soundcard already. Do I have to buy a Toneport just to use it as a Gearbox dongle?

Thanks,
John
