Yup vst and vsti support is indeed a must for most of todays audio apps.

but again,

I use ReWire with Ableton Live Lite 4 to sync up wav files of all sorts with RiffWorks. Too bad Ableton took that away in the newer versions. I have a DOD Drum Loop CD full of waves that kicks ass and you can just assemble your beats in Ableton and away you go.

The easiest thing to do is to after you get your stuff all together in Ableton; mix it to a riff in RW then you don't have to worry about that part again in Ableton, you can move on to something else.

You should be able to open RiffWorks first then open Ableton Live Lite 4. Live lite 4 should switch over to Demo mode and into a Rewire slave. Check the Rewire Tab in RW and make sure there is a check mark in the Ableton box.

Ableton live a quite a way to go and i have been using it for long but the mix to riff over rewire is bummer for me as once mixed you lose all control over the mix of the layers of the riff, and over rewire live does not support external vst.

i use live to laydown the entire drum or asynth pad track for audiitoning and then export the entire track as wave file and then use wavechunker to split the tracks and intelliriffer to import into existing riffs. but that is still too much work and very esay to lose your creativity flow, that is one of the main reasons we need natvie support of wavefiles import in RW itself (not over rewire as that just leaves it open to conditions as said above)

Many a times i find exporting a RW mix out and then using live for all other stuff like synth tracks etc.. Again i mostly use RW as drawing board like at 3 am i just hear some riff in mind and i can just fire rw and have that riff in rw with some supporting drum track in minutes before losing any part of it in head , as no setup time like in other apps.)
