Is there any smart way to somehow import a wav file into RW? The simple & stupid way would be to place a microphone in front of the speakers of my CD player, press "play" and mike that baby into one single, 4-minutes-long RW riff. But there has to be a smarter way... One that doesn´t eat up all the dynamics and that keeps me from using that really cheap, hiss-and-crackle-inducing, treble-cutting microphone of mine...

In an ideal world, there would be an option to "import WAV file into riff" function somewhere. I don´t mind at all if it wouldn´t be time-coded - all I want is to play along and add some guitar to a track a friend of mine recorded in Reason.

I don´t want the feature overkill and the walking-on-eggs setup delicacies as described in the "Rewire fun" thread further down.

I just wanna play along! *sob*

I'm with ya there Red. Someone, if not everyone, has requested this feature. I believe there is an application developed by one of the members here called wavechucker or riffwhacker or something that allows you to import wav files into Riffworks, Haven't tried it, so can't comment. It would be a GREAT feature to be able to import MP3's and Wavs into a riff.

May I also suggest an mp3 or wav player via VST plug-in such as mp3play2c ? You may have to chain the effect using VSThost or Plogue Bidule.

Using rewire to divert sound from a mp3/wav file from Reaper is painless, I promise. Start RW, start Reaper which senses it's a rewire slave. Play the file. Play along on RW.

I have not had any success with this. What version of Reaper are you using? Have you posted a song you've recorded this way?

Guys, for fck´s sake, this intelliriffer thing WORKS!!! It WORKS!!! Smoothly, painlessly, easily!! Excuse my enthusiasm, but (*wiping off tears of joy*) I don´t remember EVER having pulled some free software off the internet, especially not an add on to a complex software, and then seeing it work without crash, without blue screen, just the way it should!!

I mean, this little program is the official end of any problems, if, for example, you want to import a sampled sound effect into a RW song.

Please, SWW, make this a sticky subject! EVERYONE should have this program! And that bunch of Rex files from over at the ID forum, too. Please give them newcomers a head start and create a download folder with these beautiful add ons!

Having used intelliriffer, I now believe to understand the purpose of this other program, the Wavecutter. If you have an entire song to convert into a RW riff, the result will be one huge, endless, 4min long riff. If, however, you cut that long wav file into bits of, say, 20 secs each, and THEN convert those, you have 12 easily manageable riffs! Correct?

Man, this is beautiful!! I wish I had known this for much longer!! Kudos, kudos, kudos to the developer!

I'm using the latest Reaper (but I haven't tried it since 2 revisions ago). I haven't posted a song, but tonight when I am plugged it, I'll give it a whirl. I recall testing it about a month ago before I found the mp3play VST plugin.

Amit rocks! Send him a gift certificate for a drummer, I'm sure he'd appreciate it for his programming efforts! :D

Ok... started a new job so I was late but I did it... Had to figure out how to riffcast as well.

What I did. (I am using the latest Reaper (7 April 2008 release).

In order to demonstrate playing a WAV in Reaper and shunting it into RW via rewire, i had to first get a WAV file. I could have sampled a couple of bars of any MP3 or WAV but I was trying to do this kosher.

Making the WAV file:

I started Riffworks and recorded 8 bars of some rhythm noodling with a drums background. Made 2 riffs of this into a song and mixed to .WAV - called it demo.wav. Closed everything.

The *operation*:

I started RW and made sure I could play my guitar through it. I unchecked Mr Sorum's fine but-by-now-tedious-default-demo-drums, and checked the Rewire backup check box.

I started Reaper and inserted demo.wav as a track. Made sure it played as I wanted it to sound.

Went back to RW, hit record, and badly played along with the background.

Hit the riffcast button - and http://www.riffworld.com/Members/JohnN/demoriffworksreaperrewire

Sorry to take so long.

John, thanks for taking the time to try this and and demo it. I'll have to find time to get creative.

redbaron - great job on your take.

i use my boss loop station to record to, then plug it in to the pc, run RW set up for one long riff and hit record and bam any song i want. This works well for me only draw back is boss loopstations are not cheap, 179.99 for the cheap one, but you can plug anykind of player into them

low tech solution: run a cable from your sound card into your guitarport/toneport. drawbacks: records into the rifflayer, but you can superimpose in riffs when you record. useful for jamming over backing tracks, or for bringing in sound effects. also, you need to have your computer volume turned up otherwise the recording is too low. but the above solutions sound better, I'll have to try them.

Definitely. I swear on the fate of the world´s greatest football club, VfL 1900 Borussia Mönchengladbach, that atalwars programs just make all these detours and byways unnecessary!
