Hi everybody in the forum. Sorry about my ignorance but how can I do a good fadeout to finish a song without lowering the volumes in the guitar and bass. If Riffworks got an option to do that like other recording software, please let me know, because I didn't find it. Thanks, francomt75 :-)

Hi there.

What you can do is; on each recorded layer is an INFO button. Hit that, and you will see a waveform-type view underneath the layer. Use the left mouse button to grab the opaque line at the top and you can drag the line down to mute or fade each layer. It's a bit convoluted, but if you do each layer about the same you can get some decent fade effects.

Hope you understand what I mean. Here's a screen shot of a two-layer fade out.

I think there may be more clever ways to do it, but this is how I achieve it.

Dave.

Wanted to ask that as well. I did find the solution with the info diagrams, but if I know in the back of my head that it's not really a perfect solution it keeps on bugging me, even though I don't really hear the different layers fade out non-simultaneously (sp??).

Is there a (freeware) program that lets you do that once you've mixed down to .wav without wrecking the sound quality? Would also be perfect for fade ins or trimming the ends of a song.

Thanks, rhyno

What I would do is Mix to Riff then drag the new riff to the song bar and then fade that one riff.

Audacity is a great (and free!) program that will do lots of that post-mix work, including fades, trimming, converting to MP3 etc.

An excellent freeware program you can do a fade out with is Audacity, you can also do a lot of other cool stuff with it. I know there are a lot of others out there but lots of us use this one.

You can download it here http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

I'm using the Beta version on Vista without any problems :)

Hey Rhyno try a free program called Audacity that allows you to master WAV,OGG, MP3 files ............fade In/outs and a whole bunch of other things are possible with it.....I use it on 100% of my tunes.......... make sure you download the LAME mp3 encoder if you want to use it for mp3's as well.

I'll add my voice to the Audacity chorus, but also check out gatorjj's advice about mastering in Audacity. You can find it here an it's awesome:

Thank you very much. I'll try that one out.
@bluesydude: A solution as simple as that of course doesn't come to my mind easily...

And sorry to you, francomt75, for hijacking your thread.

Hijacking threads is no problem as it is the name of the game here but don't forget the one important rule that new guys must buy the beer and by my reckoning there's two of you here !!!!!! ;)

Hey, guys, I have a handle on all the above and use Audacity for fades and overall EQ, etc. But, say you have a tune that you want to enter into Riffrumble (you have to do that from within Riffworks) and you want to do a fade out on it...how do you fade out the drums?

What I'd do is this - save your .rws file under a different name so you don't lose your riff structure. Then hit the MIX button up top, and select the "Mix to Riff" option. This basically mixes the entire song down as it is in the timeline, and loads it as a Layer in a new Riff. Then you can use the INFO button for that riff to do your fade. No external apps needed, and you're still Rumble Rules-compliant :)
