Having searched the forums I can't really seem to find an answer, so here goes. I'm currently using a Toneport GX with Riffworks Line 6 edition, after doing some research on the GearBox Plugin I came to the conclusion that this would allow me to record "dry" inputs to Riffworks and then play around with my effects from gearbox later. I've crossgraded to Riffworks Standard in order to use the VST plugin but after doing some more digging I've found that I cannot change the gearbox effects once they've recorded?

Could someone confirm if I'm right on this and if so what is the benefit of Riffworks Standard over Line 6? I'm wondering if there are benefits which I'm not going to realise because of my setup? Any advice appreciated!

hi martin,
rw standard will work with other things too, like m-audio/jamlab to plug into, where as line6 version is limited to line6 and it's drivers, guitarport, toneport etc.
gearbox with my jamlab i don't use, i use jamlab with my amps and pedals. not sure
if you can or not.
you didn't go wrong by getting rw standard.
as to adding effects from gearbox after recording, you can't. you can add effects from rw after!

other guys here will chime in, i'm sure, to give you more info.

Fair enough, sounds like it doesn't work as I thought it might (damn shame - changing effects would be awesome!! I'd pay for the option!) but it's still a brilliant piece of kit. Now all I need to do is learn to play the guitar and not have vocals that suck and you'll see me packing out the Millenium Stadium!

Hi campbellm

Riffworks may not work the way you want right now, but after using it for a while you will think it is better this way. While additional features are bound to be added to it, the current set allows for some pretty slick productions, as a browse of Riffworld will attest.

That said, I remember seeing some blurb about that gearbox plugin and the ability to 'reamp' and all that. Being a dumbass, I have no idea what that means, but I thought they did say something about altering Gearbox effects after the fact.

Riffworks Standard is the better model to go for; you can use many other add-ons and VST's with it and arent tied to the Line6 hardware/driver setup. I look forward to seeing you at Millenium stadium; hopefully you will get Robbie Williams to support you or someone like that.

Dave.

As stated, once you set something to print from your core sound, you cannot modify it from the source. Think of it as like creating a document in word and then sending it to print. You can change the graphics before you print all you want, but once printed you can only modify that by putting it through another seperate process.

Only mods cans be done are through effects or EQ with Sonoma 7 VST within RW or by sourcing it out to another programs and altering the printed track there.
