I just bought riffworks and am having trouble figuring out how to use it. I've read all the information in the online manual and cannot figure out how to record vocals. When I press the record button I can hear myself through my microphone, but when I try and play back, all I get is the demo drum track and no vocals. What am I doing wrong?

I know that when you press the record button, you should see song layers come up when you finish recording, but for some reason I don't. Am I doing something wrong? Or did I not download the full version after I bought it?

Hi Boomer, please let us know which device you are using to get audio into Riffworks (Toneport, Stealthplug, MBox, Soundcard, ETC.) and give us some details about your set up. Hopefully we can sort this one out quickly.

I have a Toneport UX2 with Gearbox. Running on Windows Vista. I'm using Riffworks Vs. 2.1.1 Everything else seems to work, but maybe I'm doing it all wrong?

When I open Riffworks I and press play you get the demo drum track. All I want to do is record vocals, basically just to see that it's working. When I press record it says recording under the layers tab, but when I press stop it disapears and playback does not play the vocals.

I'm really new to all of this, I've never recorded before. I went to guitar center to find what I needed to do everything I wanted to do, and bought all the stuff he told me, but I have no clue how to use any of it. I've read through the tutorials and manuals and I'm just stuck. Everything it says to do to record isn't working. Hopefully you will be able to help me out here, because I'm getting really frustrated. I appreciate anything you can help me with greatly.

Boomerj. First thing to check. At the bottom right of Riffworks is a button that says Audio Setup. Click on that and a panel should open up that allows you to select the ASIO device. Is your Toneport selected?

Have you selected microphone input in Gearbox? And can you verify that you hear audio coming from the Toneport/Gearbox all by itself?

Hi Boomerj, there's a great group here and we'll try to get you recording in no time!

Let's see if we can home in on the problem...

It sounds like your Toneport is set up as the proper audio device, as you can hear the drums when you press play. When you talk into the mic, do the level lights at the lower left light up at all?

If they do, great. Try and record about 5-10 seconds of audio along with the drums. You should see a new "layer" in the window.

If those lights don't light up, you probably have the wrong input set to record in riffworks. Next to those lights is a little button that says "Stereo" and underneath is where you pick the input you want to record from. I don't know what they are labeled for the Toneport but I suspect this is where you'll find your answer.

Let us know how you get on, and we'll be glad to get you through this!

Cheers,

J.J.

Thanks for all your help. It ended up being a setting in gearbox that wouldn't let me record. I finally found it!! I really appreciate everyones help though!
