Crackling and breaking up when using songlayers

When I use songlayers to do (say) a vocal or some guitar fills at the song level, I often find the sound crackles and eventually starts to break up, almost as if the software can't really cope with use of the songlayer function. Any thoughts on why this might be happening? Any assistance appreciated.

Try adjusting your buffers. press the audio set up button and play with the slider on the ASIO panel.

Crackling and popping is your CPU not coping with the rendering of the audio. Kill any background tasks running (including AV software) and dumb down your graphics. You don't say if you are using a Mac or Windows but either way, lighten the load on your machine as much as possible before recording/playing back; with any audi app like this you need a lot of spare CPU cycles to keep things clean.
