Hi everybody, I was surfing the web and I found the page of drumsondemand.com these people as you know makes drum patterns for use in the Riffworks programs. I see that in the online store of the web page they sell CD's with different kinds of drums loops and styles ...etc. Can I used that with Riffworks? In my opinion the Instant Drummer is a little bit limited when talking about drum patterns. Can anyone has buyed any of these CD's and if they work great. Thanks, francomt75

You can use them if there in REX 2 format ..........just load them in the RiffWorks REX player, up to 4 REX files at a time.

I' ve had a DOD CD of REX files for a while and they work great with RW. There are so many to choose from it can be difficult to remember which is which. I find they are just as limiting as the ID (which at least you can tweak a little).
Cheers!

I wish the people who made these CD's of rex files would include at least a couple with fills at the end - 3 bars and a 1-bar fill, or 7 bars and a 1-bar fill, instead of having all the fills in one folder, which makes it time-consuming to audition them with a particular beat.

In Riffworks because it's riff-based, if I want a 4-bar beat with a fill at the end, I have to make 2 separate riffs.

ID's will throw fills in automatically, which is nice. Unless I need a very specific beat that I can only get with a rex file, I just use IDs - it's easier, and I'm lazy.

I have a few of their CDs and the loops sound great. Make sure you order the REX file format. I still use mostly instant drummers for all the reasons Pooter mentions and for being twice as lazy :D

I have a load of REX files but I only use ID's because they are easy to use and I'm probably as old as Pooter and Rich put together so my laziness must be at least threefold
No-one remembers what you do or say. Everyone remembers how you made them feel. Allegedly !!!!

Pooter nailed it there. I have a bunch of rex cd's but they work much better in a regular sequencer where you can line it out and just record over the top of the whole thing.

It would be nice if the rex player had a riff timeline of sorts, or if each rex slot was a bar, so on a 4 bar riff, you could have three bars of beat and one bar of fill. Or a crash at the start with a beat and fill at the end etc.

It's way too tedious to record over one bar riffs.

Reaper(free)rewired to riffworks with this http://www.toontrack.com/drumtracker.asp
and this http://www.toontrack.com/s20.asp will convert your rex into midi loops.
Those two products are about to release.
It is tedious. It takes hours programing drum loops.

Man, I'm excited for those products to be released!! Then I can get sucked in to spending more money on great, new sounds that I'll never use  What a strange predicament huh?

The thing is, there are several drum loop products that sound a lot better than the instant drummers but they are often difficult to work with either because the software is too much to learn and wrestle with or there is no VST support on riff layers (in real time) within RiffWorks. Usually some combination of both.

The REX player is great for accents and a few loops but very tedious to use over an entire song. Picking out one loop at a time and auditioning it for every riff just kills the flow. The "instant" drummers may sound a bit drunk (as evidenced by the often mushy cymbal hits we hear) but they do keep great time :D

All in good fun!
