You have to use it with RiffWorks on the Input........Ya can't Re-Amp so to put it in RiffWorks...... and yeah depending on your computer specs, ya might get a little latency......I have learned to live with it myself.......there are some real cool sounds in some VST's like Amplitube and Guitar Rig as well.
I'm glad I could help .....:)

This issue will keep coming up as a point of confusion for new users because most recording applications by now have support for VST. It's something that RiffWorks only partially supports as Mickey said, at the input. The purpose for this type of plug-in is so we can Re-Amp or change settings after we record dry. RiffWorks doesn't do this yet but I'm hopeful it will in the next version (crossing fingers...)

RiffLearner, try experimenting with other recording programs that have full VST support (like Reaper) to see what the plug-in can do for you. Some of these programs will link with RiffWorks via ReWire. Pretty easy to set up but that's another discussion...

Have fun :)

I should have read your posts more thoroughly Rich as I tend to skim, You had addressed this quite well. (and Poot added to accent your point) Sorry, did not mean to go against the grain or create any confusion.

A window pops up....click the Amps checkbox and a dropdown list will pop up to choose your VST's GearBox plug-In should be there..........if not refresh list or type in the right plug-in path manually pointing at the GearBox DLL file.

Why oh WHY is this not in any documents.
Thanks Mickey.

Ah yes so it is - after you say...digging :)

while i have your attention - i've tried sonic synth demo and sound tank demo and they both crash riffworks. Amplitude Live works fine but i actually prefer my Gear box sounds so back to square one again - i just cannot play a midi keyboard controller into Riffworks.

It seems some VST plugins have midi keyboard controller support and some dont. - is this true?
Can you recomend any other Riffworks compatible VST plugins that take their input from my midi controller and gives me some string, piano and synth sounds for backing in Riffworks.
Thanks
Alex

You can play a MIDI keyboard into RiffWorks but it's a little techy....I haven't tried it myself but the guys say it works...........hats off to Atalwar who figured this one out...

Have you tried Reason? it syncs right into RW's through ReWire.

atalwar wrote:I am including a Old Post of Mine from another thread with changes as applicable to control of amp vsts via midi.

ok So here's how to record direct via softsynths/vsti/VST direct into rw.
Required Plugins (vst)
1. MultifxVst
2. EnergyxtE 1.4 (vst plugin version , trial can be downloaded and should work fine)

3. MID2VST : Download the entire midibag package and you will find the plugin in it.

How to Set up:

1. Load RW(standard)

2. for amp choose Multifx VST (you should have installed in your vst plugins folder)

3. in Multifx click add and load (energyxte.dll )

4. in EnergyXt window load MID2VST and your vsti/vst that you wish to record( you can also drag and drop from system explorer on energyxt) xgear or amplitube

5. double click the mid2vst and select your desired midi input port (whereever your midi controller is sending its midi output to)
6. interconnect the plugins.

6.1 Connect master audio in to your vst amp emulator (amplitube, GTR 2/3 etc)
6.2 Connect vst2mid midi out to your vsti/vst (amp emulator) midi in port (the first small box under vst/vsti in energy xt)
6.3 connect mid2vst audio out to master out
6.4 connect your vsti/vst audio out to master out.

6.5 : Hitting a key/controller on your midi should now directly play in RW or control your vst and you can record it (for vsti /softsynth) for .

if you select the midi-in port (in midt2vst) later you should disconnect mid2vst and reconnect it otherwise it will not work.

You can save your setup in multifix vst as preset and then later load with just a cick of a button

2. EnergyxtE 1.4 (vst plugin version , trial can be downloaded and should work fine) : energy-xt.com/xt1.php

3. MID2VST : link : tobybear.de/p_midibag.html download the entire midibag package and you will find the plugin inside it.
