A friend recommended Riffworks and I have downloaded the demo version. I have the Mbox 2 Mini by Digidesign. My Pro Tools works fine, but I can't get Riffworks to recognize my Mbox 2 Mini.

When I first launched Riffworks, it recognized my laptop microphone and was using that for the input. Obviously I don't want to use the microphone, so I disabled that and now it says "None" under input. When I click on Audio Setup, The ASIO device is "Sound Reality ASIO Driver" and the Output channel is blank with no options to choose from. When I click on "Open ASIO Control Panel", nothing happens and the menu closes.

Is RiffWorks compatible with Mbox 2 Mini? I am using Windows Visa Ultimate. My friend raves about Riffworks, and I am anxious to try it, but I can't seem to get it to work. I have searched on the forums and the help documentation but I have found no help for this particular problem. I have downloaded and installed the latest version of Pro Tools for my device.

Please help if you can.

Hi visceral, one thing you might check is whether the Mbox has an ASIO driver that works with Vista (last I recall it didn't, but I don't keep up with it). The Mbox uses different type drivers for ProTools than for other recording programs, so they may have the ProTools drivers compatible and the ASIO ones not yet. I'm guessing M-Audio's website will have the latest drivers and what the current compatibilities are.

Also, this thread might have something useful in it: http://www.sonomawireworks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=5156

Good luck, and any questions just ask away!

Vista is really a pain in my ass. Can anyone give me a small list of which devices work with Riffworks and Vista? I am thinking about selling my Mbox 2 Mini and picking up a Toneport UX2. Can someone please confirm that this works well with Vista and Riffworks? Can anyone give me some feedback on the Toneport UX2. Is it a good system?

Also, I have read about ASIO4ALL. Will this work with my Mbox 2 Mini? What are the drawbacks to using this universal driver?

Thanks!

Here's the link to the recommended hardware list: http://www.sonomawireworks.com/guide/index.php/Recommended_Hardware

It doesn't list whether the drivers are Vista compatible or not though. Most devices have Vista-compatible drivers these days, for some reason the Pro-Tools-related stuff always seems to be a bit slow.

I use ASIO4ALL on occasion, and it works fine for me. It basically puts an ASIO wrapper around the native Windows audio, or so I think :)
The downsides are it doesn't seem to work well for everyone or every sound card, and apparently doesn't report it's latency properly. The upside is it's free and easy to try, so it might solve your problem in the meantime.

I think you'll find lots of folks raving over the UX2, but I'll let the throngs speak to that!

I (1 of the throngs ;))would mos def step up to a TonePort with RiffWorks.........
I have a friend/coworker(Sellarsongs) that has an MBox and his ProTools drivers clash with RiffWorks so he stepped out and bought a TonePort UX2....he also uninstalled the Pro Tools drivers to get RiffWorks Standard to work..............however he is on a MAC.....now I myself am on a PC and a Laptop PC=XP Pro & Laptop=Vista Premium...........and when loading Amplitube on both, during the setup process a window pops up asking if I have ProTools 6 or higher installed on my computer..........so apparently Pro Tools does indeed clash with the Windows version of RiffWorks as well .........
.
.
...
..
................BOTTOM line.................I recommend you get the TonePort.....
