Problems with 2.2.1.2930 update on MacBook Core2Duo 2GHz OS X 10.4.11 --

I just upgraded RW to 2.2.1.2930 from the immediate prior version and now have these NEW PROBLEMS I hope you can fix/tell me how to correct etc.:

1. RW does not remember the output settings for my interface (MOTU 828 Mk2 w/ latest drivers, v1.4.8) when closing and reopening RW. RW does remember the input settings, but not the output settings. The output settings always default whenever opening RW back to outputs 1 & 2, and I need it set for outputs 11 & 12. It's a hassle to remember to go in every time I open RW and reset the outputs to the proper ones.

2. Can't use Amplitube X-Gear now. A very big bummer. It worked fine in the immediate last version of RW. Now after the update when it opens after being selected in RW, I only get a blank window, and it says “Amp Model” at the top. Clicking around in it does nothing. I can open Amplitude 2 and Amplitude Jimi Hendirx in RW, which are also installed, but only get a blank window when opening X-Gear. I have the latest version of X-Gear (v1.2.1). [Note - so far, GR3 seems to work ok, and, it did in the immediate last version of RW despite the reports of others that it didn't work for them]

To troubleshoot, I have:

-deleted RW prefs
-reinstalled X-Gear
-double checked that X-Gear, Amplitude and Amplitude Jimi Hendrix are all in my VST plugs folder
-opened X-Gear standalone, and the au version in a host (DP), and they work fine (I know you've now switched to VST but did this just to check)

Can you fix this, or tell me what more I can try?

Hi dbender,

I will look into the X-Gear problem. I don't know a reason it would not be working, but every plugin, even from the same manufacturer has its quirks.

Did RiffWorks remember your output settings before, or has it been broken all along? Either way, I'll check into that as well.

thanks,
dug

Thanks for responding, Dug.

Yes, RW did remember the output assignments made for the interface in the immediately previous version of RW.

Tried your new T4 program today too, and same problem -- no x-gear (only blank window opens).

It's a bummer when you upgrade but lose previously existing functionality (i.e., loss of use of x-gear with new RW update)

Very bummed I can no longer use x-gear in RW, as I could before this update in the immediately prior version of RW. Hope you have a fix soon.

I was hoping reinstalling x-gear would fix it, but it did not. Do you think I should try to reinstall either Amplitude 2 or Amplitude Jimi Hendrix? I hate trying reinstalls, in case they mess something up, am big believer in “if it ain't broke......”

Install problem!!!
Installation on Imac Leopard, It says no install possible due to a newer!! version that already exist. I'm currently using Riffworks Line6 edition v2.1.1 build 2809, and trying to install the proposed update v 2.2.1 build 2930. After download and unpackng the installer is checking the target volume and find a newer version!! I'm puzzled!

This happens on a small percentage of computers. You just need to delete the RiffWorks entry from the the receipts folder (/Library/Receipts) and then attempt to install the update again.

I am having problems with this upgrade. Every time I boot up the riffworks software I get an unhandled exception. The software then won't record and generally behaves in an unstable fashion. I have raised a support log and I'm hoping that you can resolve it for me. My only way out is to reinstall the previous version of Riffworks and keep on saying 'No' to the upgrade whenever I boot up the software. Is this a widely experienced problem?

Thanks for posting this, Mcboy. So, I'm not the only one having this problem.

FYI did complete full uninstall of x-gear and reinstalled it but still had this problem. X-Gear works fine standalone and as audio unit, but still have this blank x-gear window problem with the vst version.

Still waiting for help and a fix on this. Can't use any of my x-gear patches in RiffWorks now that it went vst from au, a big bummer "downgrade" of RW.

Thanks

Hi Rob,

Sorry I missed this.

Do you get the chance to save a dump file when RiffWorks crashes with the unhandled exception? If so, we'd need to see that file. You can send it to support@sonomawireworks.com along with the description above. We also need to know what operating system and interface device you're using.

Thank you,
Randy

I appreciate your being realistic and honest, but it's a truth that hurts -- not being able to use x-gear anymore for several months since the last upgrade.

I'm not the only one. At least two others reporting same problem with blank x-gear window (McBoy in this thread, plus a new thread by someone else started today).

Thanks for fixing RW so we can again use x-gear as we did before this "up"grade.

Hi Randy. I have raised support log 15770 and also emailed the unhandled exception report through. Can you check your records?
Thanks
Rob
