I have recently added another gig to my computer since I was getting an error when I was launching Riffworks. Everytime I try and record, it would tell me I didn't have enough memeory....

Now that I put in the new memory, computer shows the update, music plays though my speakers using other programs, but riffworks is not recognizing my interface now either.

What should I do??? I have rebooted several times with no luck.

Can I copy other music, samples into a riff from my computer? and how?

When I save songs, can I move them outside of the riffworks folder and still re-launch them to do editing to songs that have already been posted or are a work in progress? will this help me minimize the amouint of space used just on the riffworks program?

I have riffcasted several songs, but I don't want to delete in case I want to go back at a later time and edit? what is the best way to handle that?

Thanks
Nick

Hi Nick

The original error message was what? That you don't have enough memory or did it mention virtual memory?

What version of the software are you using? It helps a lot if you include machine specs, Operating System, Riffworks version, interface type and any error messages including exactly what they say.

I am not sure what reply you are talking about; if you mean this forum, all replies should be listed under your post.

You can save files in different formats and change them in software like Audacity etc, then move them back into Riffworks using other tools. I don't do this but there are many other posts in the forums advising on how to do it.

If you post back with this info we can get a better handle on what's going on there.

Dave.

Thanks Dave, the reply's were to myself, I just didn't get what I was doing....hahah

After about 20 minutes the program finally opened.....although it started loading under a "default" and then went to the normal "standard" version I am running on Windows XP.

The error message was something along the lines of "not enough memory, need more memory to save files, etc." can't remember the exact message- but seems to be gone at this stage.

Thanks for the tip on Audacity, not sure what that is, but I will look it up and see what others have to say.

Hey, do you happen to know if you can copy any samples or background sounds into a single riff????

thanks

Check out atalwars' stuff, he's written some neat software to enable other stuff to be done with Riffworks, Intelliriffer, for instance :)

No-one remembers what you do or say. Everyone remembers how you made them feel. Allegedly !!!!

sounds like a vitual memory error. You can run chkdsk and then defrag your hard drive. I would also increase the size of the page file.

You can input background sounds as rex files, (like drum loops) or more likely for sounds or samples they will be in a format like an mp3 which you have to use a program like ableton or reaper to 'rewire' the sound file format into RW. Load the file into a prgram app like Reaper, go into drummer on RW and check the rewire box, it should show Reaper and then load the file from the location you have it within Reaper.

Essentially what is going on is you are using the programs much like someone uses two tape machines. That being one that plays the desired track and one that records what is played where more tracks can be laid. Reaper being as the file player and RW as the recorder.
