Hey all.

I just killed a good 40 min searching for an answer, seemingly finding it, only to realize the post was talking about a PC, not a MAC!

Bottom line is... I'm having a heck of a time with my iMac, using RWStd and the Gearbox Software, and getting my audio sorted out. I just can't figure out how to get it all set up right. I can get RW to see signal, and I can even hear audio, but nothing gets recorded.

I found a thread that said, "Just use the Gearbox VST plugin!" So... I looked, no plugin. Went to the Line 6 forum and discovered that OS X doesn't support VST!

I have a Stealthplug, that I absolutely HATE because I get nothing but latency and pop's. And my Mac is tweaked out for audio. That's what I do. I'm maxed on RAM, have nothing extra running, etc, and it blows. I hate it. Besides that, Gearbox's sounds DESTROY anything Guitar Rig or AT could ever dream of doing I think. So, I'm really bumming here. Plus, being a Line 6 "guy", I have all the extra packs, etc. I even use a Spider Valve 2x12 live. It's the sound I want. So, there has to be way to do this, without using RWStd Line 6 edition. I bought the Std to give me ALL options, but it seems I should have just bought the L6 version.

So.. my point is this... can the powers that be here split this forum up into PC and Mac? It would sure be nice to get answers that were pertaining to Mac users, and not have to sift thru a bunch of replies about PC issues. I'm not an elitist. I have a PC too. But it doesn't apply to me here. PC users would be be crying if everything was reversed. I'm sure that doing such a task would be archiving the current site, and starting a new one from scratch. Not a big deal really, and it would really serve a good purpose I think.

Thanks!

I have RW Std and I use the Line 6 gear with it no problems (PC obviously); it gives killer sound, as you know, and all without using the VST; I use a Toneport UX2 to interface with it. Perhaps this is the answer for you; beg, steal or borrow a (2nd hand) UX2 or UX1 and you can use what you have there already. You can plug phones or speakers directly into the Toneport and I'm betting that would solve your issues. I dont think changing to the Line 6 version is going to do it for you, I think it is more likely another audio interface will do the trick.

I know the devs use Macs as well, so they are aware of the limitations of each platform and try to work around it. The big problem is Apple not supporting VST.

While there are a few Mac users here, most use PC, no doubt a split that is reflected in the worldwide statistics for PC and Mac users. If you were a software developer, would you develop for PC or Mac? Devs go where the money is, and I don't blame them. VST is a standard now that almost every music company adheres to; if Apple refuse to, there is nothing Sonoma can do about that. They could always start a separate thread for Mac users to post problems, though the mixed forum seems to work and brings people together no matter what they sue; splitting it may create an 'us and them' mentality, contrary to Sonoma's ethic of bringing people together.

Do you know anyone who could lend you a Toneport or some other audio device for you to try? I started with an M-Audio Fast Track USB and that worked a treat; cheap as chips and well supported by M-Audio.

Thanks for the comments. I need to clarify, that I have the Toneport DI Silver, upgraded to the Gold. I can hear via headphones just fine. But when I launch RS, I can't seem to get it to work right. I see that there is signal coming in, but beyond that, I get nothing. It won't record audio, the very top meters aren't moving when you strum the guitar, but they do move with the click track.

I'll save this for another thread, because I'm having other issues. Switching to the L6 version isn't the answer for me I'm sure. I was just thinkin'.

Thanks!
