Is Rifflink down? Cuz RWStd won't completely load at launch.

Hey guys... I'm on an iMac here with OS X. RW was working fine. But all the sudden when I start up, I get the hourglass cursor, and RW is unresponsive. I can't click on anything or do anything. I have to just force quit. It was working earlier, now It's not.

I completely uninstalled it, and reinstalled, and that didn't do the trick either. However, I did save the drummer folder, and all the other content regarding my registration, etc. It was the drummer folder and two files I think.

Any ideas?

Boy, this is really weird. I just went back and version, and it does the same thing. It get the "wristwatch" cursor like it's waiting for something. The program doesn't say "Not responding" or anything. But it just isn't working. It's not letting me click on anything, or do anything.

I repaired my permissions, rebooted, and have nothing else running. Very strange. It's almost like it's trying to connect to a server or something, and can't. I just don't know.

Thanks!

It sounds like a driver conflict....... if you have a Mac then more then likely you have Pro Tools installed. Pro Tools drivers could be causing the hang. Try uninstalling Pro Tools (as long as you have the install disk) and see if that helps.

Wow, that would be a drag! I haven't even so much as launched PTLE on this machine in a week, and RW was working just this morning, then stopped. The only things I have launched outside my browser is Gearbox. I'll keep checking into to it.

Odd. All the sudden it's working. The only thing diff that I did was unplug my Toneport DI, and plug in my Stealthport cable. AND something I noticed was that Gearbox was listed as an amp. I wonder if I can see it because my stealthport cable is plugged in? Cuz Gearbox isn't VST as far as I know, and it shouldn't be there on OSX. But hey, it's working again. I guess the next time this happens, unplug the Toneport to reset it, then plug it back in.

The USB plug/unplug has always been an issue.....sometimes RW's glitches and loses the ASIO drivers for gearbox and that (the replug) does the trick.......anyways ....I'm glad you're back up and running..... :)

I have exactly the same problem; Riffworks has suddenly started only partially loading - the interface comes up and the start-up 'song' starts to load - but then I am left with the 'waiting' hourglass and the programme simply never finishes loading.

I have tried : plugging/unplugging my Toneport UX2; updating the Toneport drivers; updating Riffworks; uninstalling/reinstalling Riffworks; launching from a song file rather than the programme exe.

Since Riffworks will not fully load, I am unable to test it with other drivers. I suspect that, even though I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling the programme, some legacy entries are being left in the Windows registry and so the problem remains.

In all other respects my sound setup is working perfectly, including with all other music apps. The problem is only with Riffworks, which until now had been working perfectly for 2 years ! The only thing that has changed as far as I know has been the installation of the most recent Riffworks updates - is there some problem there ??

Unless this can be fixed, the programme I have been happily using for 2 years just became useless to me.

Any help would be VERY gratefully received

Try firing up Riffworks with your TonePort unplugged.........just to start........if it fires up......it's a driver conflict.....and check the other ASIO devices listed.

Mickey

Many thanks for the quick reply. I have tried your suggestion but ....... no joy.

I have never had driver issues before and the only relevant thing that has changed on my system has been the the recent Riffworks updates, so my money is on that, but as I said, when I try to roll back to an earlier version, the problem persists.

When I try to install the original version, without any updates, what I end up with is the latest version again, so I'm thinking that the so-called uninstall process isn't actually completely clearing the programme off the system, but is leaving the problem files in the registry.

I have also raised the issue directly with support, so hopefully they may have some ideas, otherwise I seem to have nowhere to go.

Well, I'm back up !

After a bit of poking around on these forums, looking for posts on similar problems, I plucked up courage and dived into the Windows registry.

I deleted the offending ASIO device name entry, which it appears had become 'stuck' on another USB interface I had been using, and reinserted the Toneport UX2.

Now all seems to be well again !

Glad you're up and running again.

Can you please let us know which driver RiffWorks was getting stuck on?

Thanks!

Randy

The driver was the ASIO driver for an Alesis Multimix8 USB2.0, which is a multi-in/out mixer with a built in USB audio interface.

I have used it successfully with other audio software, including Sonar Home Studio 6XL.

Hope thats of some help/interest.

Regards

Yes, thank you. I can add it to our list of devices that we've seen issues with.

Thanks again!
