There seems to be an issue with IntelliRiffer v2.05 in that the .rwr file which imports to the songlayer appears to corrupt the host .rws file (or the part that handles the songlayer data).
Importing a songlayer from IntelliRiffer stops that layer itself and any other layer added to the songlayer from being saved. :(
Riffs and layers within them are not affected - just the songlayer.
Cheers!
Scott

Ok Scott,
I checked quite a bit.

It seems to be an internal RW issue maybe current version or something.

What is happening is RW is not importing/saving song layer riffs correctly.

Here is something to try (without intelliriffer).

1. Create a new song in RW
2. go to the song layer and record something for couple of bars.
3. click the export riff button to export the song layer.
4. create a new song.
5. import that song layer riff.
6. RW should prompt if you want to replace song layer : yes >it should play in song layer.
7 save the song.
8. open the song again. bang, same issue., the layer is gone.

If some of the guys here can test and confirm this issue perhaps we can make sonoma aware of this and file it as a bug that they may fix in future versions.

for the time being staying away from the "save song" feature of intelliriffer would be the best thing to do.

Also the songlayer data may still be recoverable as a riff, if the song is corrupted.

We've obviously been doing the same style of thinking.

I got fed up of having to redo the fx on the vocal track which I imported so I got everything the way I wanted it and exported the songlayers as a .rwr file. I can import them again and they hold on to their fx settings but still won't save.

I already logged a call with Randy but I think we should make them aware of your involvement too.
Cheers!

Amit,

Which version of RiffWorks are you using? I'm trying to discover if this bug is in the current release version, or a result of something changing in the newer Beta builds.

Ok, I've tracked down the bug. When importing a song layer, RiffWorks is importing it like it's a regular riff. I'll fix it in the new version.

Thx Hayden,
I was going to email you guys about what i found out on what's happening inside RW Songs on songlayer import etc , but i guess you have it nailed already.

I thought it was something with saving , like it was not serializing the imported riff object properly for songlayer tapreriff.

Regards,
Amit
