Thanks Randy. After some initial failure to recognize my Zoom interface today Riffworks is now automatically setting the latency at 256 samples and this has taken care of the delay problem on playback. I think the last time I was using the program and attempting to set the latency it must have been jumping around and returning to a higher setting when I closed the ASIO setup window as the latency was so late as to be completely unusable. Now it is working very well and I think I will purchase the program. Thanks again for your response.

Well I guess I spoke to soon but at least I have had a small taste of the program working properly for a short period. Now the lagging on playback has resumed but the settings don't seem to have changed. On top of the delay problem the drums parts even slow down on playback? My Zoom H4 ASIO driver will only give me 5.5 milliseconds as its minimum latency setting. This results in Riffworks showing 256 samples in , 652 samples on output for a total of 20.5896. I guess this is just too much delay for reasonable playback? I am using Vista Home Premium 32 bit on a dv6500 HP notebook PC running an AMD Athlon 64x2 dual core TK-55 1800 Mhz processor with 2 gigs of RAM.
Anything else I should be doing?

20ms should not hang up too much. 30+ would still playback but could start to cause problems. I'm @ 13.5ms with ASIO4ALL and it plays fine.
Something else is likely going on IMO.

If you are getting what sounds like modulation garble and the drums are slowing.. that is more like a processor-ram issue. Are you by chance leaving the program up with work loaded for long periods of time?
Just for the heck of it...try closing out of Riffworks, then unplugging your USB device (zoom) for 10 seconds, then plugging back in and load up RW again to see where you are at.

I had a Zoom G2.1U pedal connected for a week to test out the sounds and it worked just as well as the TonePort I ended up with as far as latency goes; no problems with playback at all. I didn't end up using it because I thought the sounds were very heavy-handed, which is what people seem to want these days. They don't seem to get that not everyone wants to sound like Marilyn Manson's guitarist or that dude from Linkin Park. Gearbox gives me much more control over the sound and works seamlessly, so the Zoom is just sitting there doing nothing. If anyone wants to buy it, contact me; I will ship it wherever you want. It has been used for as long as mentioned above.

Hope I don't get banned for advertising here! Sorry mods - perhaps you should have a 'gear for sale' forum topic.
