I am sure this has been asked before but i can't find the answer. I have had riffworks std since July '08 and i love it !!! I was using a Stealth Plug but i wanted to be able to record vocals aswell as get some more amp sounds. So, i purchased a Line 6 Toneport Gx just today and i have been trying to get it to work all day and i have been unsuccessful. I have read countless "help" forums and i have downloaded the line6 edition of riffworks aswell , but i can't seem to get the line 6 amp sounds to be heard using riffworks. Riffworks std does show the line 6 gearbox software there and i can select it but the effects are not audible and it records clean. I tried with both the Line 6 edition i downloaded and the standard edition i already have loaded. I would like to just keep using the std. since all my drummers are there , but i'm not sure how . Sorry for making this long , but i wanted to make sure that i presented all the facts. If someone can help me out i would VERY much appreciate it . Thanks in advance !

First check the Audio set-up window at the bottom right and make sure that the TonePort is the selected audio driver......also check the inputs on the bottom left and make sure that stereo send 1 & 2 is selected.....if you have send 3 & 4 selected you'll get the clean/dry/unprocessed signal that you've described.......

And also just to check.....you ARE plugged into the Toneport and not the StealthPlug, correct?, when trying to record with the TonePort.

Yes. I have made sure that both the Toneport GX is the selected ASIO Driver and i have inputs 1 and 2 selected. I am plugged into the Toneport and not the Stealth Plug. The Window that comes up when i select a amp from Gearbox has the Line6 Monkey asking me if i would like to activate . I select that and i login and everything that i need is checked off. So, it would appear that it is activated. When i open the Gearbox as a standalone i can hear all the effect sounds. It is only when i open it with Riffworks do i not hear the effects at all. Thanks for the help. If you have anything else i can try please pass it my way since i have still not been able to get this running.

Hmmmmm...it sounds like you have the plug-in VST version of GearBox running from the "Amps" section of RiffWorks, not the stand alone Gearbox 3.64.......you need to open Gearbox separately once you open Riffworks...not through the amps tab in Standard.....

again, uncheck the amps tab and run GearBox separately with the HardWare tab enabled (red), you should then hear and be able to record your Line 6 tones.

Yes, Mickey has hit the nail I think; it does sound like you are using the VST version of Gearbox, (unless you purcahsed it separately, it won't work in Riffworks).

Open Riffworks and Gearbox via the Start menu (or desktop shortcuts). Make sure that your sources on Gearbox are Instrument and Input. Strumm something, you should get action in Gearbox regardless of hearing anything out of Riffworks. If not, hit the help in Gearbox on how to set up your guitar for recording.

On Riffworks, click the Audio Setup button on the bottom right; Input should be set to ASIO TonePort (model number) and Output to Output 1 + Output 2 (or similar). On Riffworks, Harware monitoring (button, middle left bottom) should be OFF, (red light on button ON). Check the Input on the bottom left; it should be set to Send1 + Send2 (or similar). You should have something now if your guitar is turned up. Give it a bash and see what happens. If you have sound, try recording something and see if it plays back.

This is how I have mine set up and it works OK.

Good stuff; nothing more frustrating than having great tools and not being able to get anything out of them.
