Seems as if riff lengths default to 8 bars. When I improvise a riff I don't want to be restricted to any length. You see my improvs are sometimes minutes long. 50 or 60 bars perhaps
Is it possible for the riff length in bars to be determined automatically by the point at which one stops recording the riff ?

Riffworks is loop-based recording software and claims to be exactly that in all the blurb about it. If you want open-ended, 'stream-of-conciousness' type recording, although you can set RW up to do something like that, it isn't what it is primarily designed for. It's a bit like being disappointed that your new Mini doesn't tow a huge trailer-sailer properly. It can, but not very well.

You would need something like Reaper or Audacity for that type of recording.

True
I'm getting on much better with Audacity for my needs. Might come back to RW though if I decide to build stuff up in blocks.

Yes spot on Christoph....He either hasn't got a clue and needs help well beyond what we can provide (psychiatrist maybe?), or he's just on here just to be disruptive (working for a competitor maybe?). Ignore him guys really; check out all his other posts. Let him use audacity, he'll be happier, and we'll not get endlessly asked the most ridiculous of questions, with the most obnoxious of attitude........:)

It's an interesting request though...I think he is asking if RiffWorks will allow him to just press record, freely record a part and when he hits stop, RiffWorks can automatically figure out how many bars (length) just went by. Yeah, wouldn't that be nice! Doubtful that it will ever work that way but maybe not too crazy to ask...then again, I'm crazy too so..... :D

I'm wondering if IntelliRiffer (used in conjunction with another program such as Sonar, or maybe even one of those "free" DAWs that are out there now) would allow "trimming" of the unused end part of a pre-specified super long riff created just for jamming to? Then merely import the trimmed riff back into Riffworks. Each of the layers of the riff would have to be trimmed of course. Might take some experimenting, but that's how I'd approach the problem.
