Hey bjabus,
The H2 can be used as an audio interface, though honestly I haven't gotten it to work perfectly just yet. I wanted to use it for recording acoustic guitar into Riffworks. I downloaded the latest firmware from Samson and am using ASIO4all.
It seemed like I could never quite get the right combination of settings in ASIO4all where I could record/monitor with no latency and no glitches in the audio being recorded. I could get recordings with no glitches, but the latency was so bad that there was no way you could play along with anything. If you got it to where the latency was acceptable, the audio had so many glitches and pops that quite honestly it sounded like bird poop.
However, when I did these tests I only had 1GB of ram in my machine. Since then I have added another stick, bringing me up to 2GB total. This should help tremendously, I just haven't had a chance to try it since then.
Overall I'd say the H2 is worth every penny of it's sticker price, and then some. What clinched it for me was a website I visited (can't remember where it was for the life of me now, try Googling "H2 sound samples"). Anywho they made several different recordings using all of the popular field recorders recording the same thing at the same time, which gave you a really good idea of the sound quality differences between them. Out of all of them the H2 was the best to my ears. It even beat the $500 Sony. Plus it'll record in surround sound, which is something none of the others will do.
I think what's most impressive about it is the way it records drums. You wouldn't think recordings that good could come from a $200 mic.
