The platform works fine with many Vista OS users though, so I would say something else is happening on your system. You should email support directly with your problem and detail your specs there and have them advise you through this.

I used to have many C++ runtime errors when I first started using RW in 07 on XP but I did not get them right off the bat. Usually when trying to incorportate the Sonoma VST7 for effects I had those issues.
There may be something else on your platform or in your OS causing the conflict or instability with the program.

A link to support email can be found at the top of the page.

I dont know if this will help, but you can try right clicking on the Riffworks shortcut and then select "Run as Administrator" to see if it will start.

Lemme know if this works. If it does, there is another trick to make it run as admin everytime without right clicking.

Try unplugging your network connection before starting Riffworks. Out of left field I know, but humor me. Does it make any difference?

If you start Riffworks with the network unplugged then plug it in, it should be fine for that session and all functionality will be present. Close it though, and you'll have to go through the process again. This happened on my Vista machine and at least one other machine I know of; how to fix it is a good question. In my opinion there is nothing you can do until a fix comes out from the dev team. My Riffworks is now fixed as far as that goes but the devs could not explain why, it just is. Because you are probably the only one out of a million users (lucky huh?) I don't think it will be on the top of the to-do pile but hang in there, an update may not be far away which could very well fix your issue. At least you can work around it in the meantime by plugging the network after starting Riffworks. The problem will be the update; RW checks on startup for updates (which could be crashing your copy) so you should get a dialog going with support and have them provide you with a direct link when the updates come out so you can at least update your copy of the software.

Good luck

Dave.

Is that the 64 bit or the 32 bit Vista? Prem or Home? Intel or Amd?

How do you mean no connection? Are you running Riffworks with hardware monitoring off (red light at bottom on)? The input source on the bottom left of Riffworks should read something like Send1+Send2 and the audio setup (bottom right) should be set to your ASIO device (in my case a TonePort UX2) and output channel to Output1+Output2.

If everything is set up like this, you should be hearing signal into Riffworks and sighting movement on the input VU at bottom left of Riffworks.

Note you cannot use the Gearbox VST as a device within Riffworks unless you have paid for it so I am assuming you are using a standard Line6 device (TonePort or similar).

If you hear music from Gearbox, setting the controls as above should get you going in Riffworks.

yeah, if you have a hardware interface from L6, you should be getting a green light otherwise you won't have sound. Unless he has a VST in demo mode?

The VST doesn't output anything unless paid for if I recall correctly; that is, no demo mode at all. I could be wrong here though.
