I enjoy riffworks, but im looking for a little more. Does anyone have any suggestions on a computer software the will allow you to edit/mix/record etc all in one program? I dont like having to send files out to audacity and such and just looking for an all in one. I cant get the riffs to mesh well and you can always tell where the new riff stops/starts when you drag them up into the song layer line. Is there any software where you can cut and past parts that you like in and out? Thanks

Riffworks is good enough for 95% of the stuff I do. It's when I need som VST effects I have to migrate to other software.

There are lots of software for what you are looking for, they are called DAWs. In place of Riffworks I would suggest:

1. Start using Audacity. It's free and open source. You can record/edit/mix etc.
2. Reaper. Semi-professional DAW which costs $50. Really good! And also has full VST support.
3. Ableton Live, Sonar, Cubase, Pro Tools are the major DAWs used by pro's. Cost starting with $200-300

If you move away from Riffworks you will probably notice that your productivity level will fall drastically while your headache will increase since Riffworks has an amazingly cool and intuitive workflow compared to most other DAWs.

There is also Magix Music Studio I think it is 59.95 to 79.95 at most stores can't remember exact cost. It has Virtual Clips, VST support, Rewire and comes with SampleTank SE and some other included Synth Instruments. Midi and Audio tracks in one place, full range of effects, Object Editing, Vocoder, Pitch Correction etc etc amazing for the price. It also has a mastering platform, 32 bit support

Hi, Dthorne, if you are looking for a higher level of sophistication then there are loads. However, you can edit, mix and record in riffworks, and for most of the posts that are casted on here that all that will have been used. Some of us sometimes export to audacity or another DAW to master after the mix, but I suspect with the new compressor and limiter setup I'll be doing less of that. I've done some tests and I can't get Audacity to improve too much on the final riffcast I get now. So you shouldn't have to export files out at all really

you should also be able to get the riffs to mesh, and there are various techniques we all use. As the guys say, the other stuff will give you more that's for sure, but it takes more investment in terms of your time.

If you are having particular trouble with riff transitions just ask, there is no reason they shouldn't be smooth.
