I just sent this to customer support and i'll paste what I sent them. I think this is a great idea. I hope Sonoma puts this in a future upgrade:

Not really a problem, just a suggestion for your awesome Riffworks. What's frustrating is not being able to insert a musical drum downbeat or upbeat accent( an accent, I mean when the drummer mixes it up and hits a down beat with cymbal crash or a snare with cymbal crash) whenever you want to. this could make the music more real if one is able to insert accents when desired. Imagine, mouse clicking on a button( insert upbeat accent OR insert domnbeat accent )- move the mouse over to the riff layout and insert a simple kickdrum/cymbal crash or snare/cymbal crash wherever you want. Then the have Riffworks hold up on the drum pattern for one beat count and then continue- like what happens in real life with a real band. Seems like it would be easy for Riffworks to play this short sample and hold up on the drum pattern, then continue. Listen, for example to Judas Priest's Ridin On The Wind in various places and listen to all the accents. OR yea have a button that can designated when you want the drum pattern to play a 4 beat fill etc.
what do you think

Try adjusting the variation or intensity knobs when using an instant drummer. You can vary the beats (some more than others) depending on the instant drummer session you are using. It can/will add rolls and fills or crashes and such at the end of the bar to assist in transitions. In addition I use REX files for the addition of crashes and such as required. They are all over the place if you google, in fact there was a thread on these very boards with links to some great freebies:

Just a few suggestions to try....others here may have more.

All you need to do is check the box to enable the REX player (in the drummer tab), and load the applicable file (click load and point to the file location).......I know it sounds stupid but you are checking the box to enable the REX player right? You never know, I am not trying to be smarty pants, just trying to help....lol

What kind of an error message do you get? Can you take a screen shot?

Other than it should work as that is all there is to it. Not sure much else can be done unless you email Sonoma support.

I do everything as you have listed and it doesn't work. The error i get is specified backup preset cannot be loaded. I appreciate your help and reply and don't take any offense to what you said. sometimes we all have the tendencies to skip or miss the most obvious or easy steps or stuff. Thanks! I'll keep trying but this is really pushing my patience! lol!

Try to get a screen shot if you can and email Sonoma support.......you could always re-install RWS and see if that helps.

When in doubt shut er down and re-install........lol

Ok, this sounds to me, like the rex file you are trying to load has a specified preset with it that you don't have. Go to the Instant drummer forum and locate the free drum rex files from Marty then try these. Make sure you know where you save them so that you can find them in from within riffworks...

I would also love to see a fill insert type of option. I have no idea what rex, rewire, vst or any of these things are. A simple button would be awesome for us computer not so geniuses!

I agree with the original poster, we should have the option to insert accents or drum/cymbal hits into InstantDrummer tracks, or create drumbeats ourselves. REX Files do come in handy sometimes, but it's usually hard finding the ones you want. I rarely find REX files containing drum beats with the exact accents or hits I want, so I often have to use a BOSS drum machine for recording

ok,
I got a response from sonoma. They said it's cool idea and they'll have engineering look into it. The problem with Rex files is that the the main insta- drummer doesn't hold up and respect the accent that the rex pattern puts in, sounds cluttered. And YES thank you for making me aware of these "REX" files, didn't know what they were and what that rex tab was for. Now i do. i downloaded a whole bunch of rex files, man, is this fun, who needs Cakewalk or Pro Tools

Everyone who downloads and trys Riffworks wants the same thing; more drummer tweakability. The thing is that after a while you will get so good at using Rex's and using the other ID's that you don't worry about needing this filled or that accented. Just hang in there and you'll soon master it.

Just wondering if someone could explain exactly what an REX file is and how you use it?

The reason I would like a simple "fill button" is because I use Riffworks for the fact that it's easy to use and it's all in one (And it Kicks Ass). And adding a button would keep it that way.

I don't know what REX is, and have in my mind that's its a whole other program that I will have to learn in order to get some fills for my drum beats.

If it's simple to use and easy to learn I would love to find out!

Thanks in advance!
