Hello All,
I just recently discovered Riffworks, and downloaded the t4 version last night to demo.
So far, I understand how to run the software. But i'm having major problems and hoped it was common. I searched the forums but came up with nothing.
Here's my setup:
guitar -> Line 6 X3 Live -> x3 usb -> usb input on pc (usb 2.0).
The playback of anything is hit and miss. I have to turn my x3 on and off or restart the RW app several times to get playback sound. I know it's playing because, the level indicators or jumping around. I always hear what I am playing on my guitar at the time, but never the drums or recorded riffs (yes, I have checked the volume :-)).
When I do get the playback to work, it's only for a short time. it will work and if I change a setting, or just play for more than a couple of minutes, bam it's gone.
With this setup the x3 pedal acts as my AIO device. Would I have better luck with a separate device?
Also, how come I can only hear the playback through the headphone jack on my x3 and not through my pc speakers??
Any help would be appreciated.

I use the X3 live with Riffworks and have no problems. I would suggest you ensure the latest drivers and such are installed via the Monkey. If you want to to hear playback with the X3 you have to have your pc speakers connected to the X3 directly, like the headphone out.

Your other option is to use ASIO for all, download and install it.....you can select those drivers in the audio setup for RW and use that to play back recorded material via your pc speakers. When you run RW is it using the ASIO drivers for the X3 or trying to use the onboard audio card ASIO drivers? If it is a Creative card, their drivers will not work for ASIO playback.

The best advice I can give you is to disable your onboard sound card, and make the X3 your main audio device. Then plug the headphone output on the X3 into your pc speakers......and voila.

Thanks for the feedback.

Last night I had no issues with the sound dropping out. I don't quite know what was going on. but hopfully the working trend will continue.
I even recorded a quick little melody with 3 guitar tracks and drums. it was pretty cool.

Its a problem with the X3 LIVE. Go to line6.com and you will see that its common. USB audiodropout is what everyone calls it. So far there is no fix. I'm experiencing the same issues.

For me the length I record dictates whether the audio will go out. You can unplug and re plugin the USB cable to the X3 and restart RIffworks and it should start working again.

The USB dropout issue is a known one for sure. I myself have been lucky enough not to have run into it more than maybe 2X. There is a new firmware update to V 1.20, and although it has not been confirmed to fix it, some folks on the L6 forum are claiming it did. But I do not think that is the issue, like you stated in the first post you had sound only via the headphones out......but if you do get the USB dropout then you will have to do as Gmaj7 suggested.

Again some have it more than others, I will count my blessing I do not........all I can suggest is you connect via the monkey and get everything updated and see if that helps.

Does not appear so.....I guess it is hit and miss. Again I am not affected by it much so I am counting my blessings.

I have the X3 bean, and while I do not use it very often it never had the issue. If your computer has an spdif input I would suggest using that for recording in which case you will not use your line6 drivers, instead your soundcard drivers or asio4all. This way all of your audio will be routed through your pc and not through the X3L. You could also use the analog outs.

I prefer the Toneport ove the X3 because the output options and connections were much more a waste of time for me, I enjoy the plug in and play quality of the Toneports.
