Okay, so I'm brand new to Riffworks. I hooked it up over the weekend and was able to record something and mix it down in a very short time. SO this is a great solution.

Actually if you click the link at the bottom, you can play it on my myspace page. Its really rough as I was interested more in the recording than the playing but I would be interested to hear any hints from you guys with regard to the mix.

Anyway, to my drum question. Are the drums supposed to be in every layer? Or am I supposed to record one full layer of just drums for the length of the song?

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike,

Welcome to the RiffWorks forum!

The Instant Drummer feature doesn't actually "appear" as such. Layers make up riffs and it's to a riff that the drummer is linked - not layers. You'll get the same drummer playing in a riff whether there are 1 or 24 layers.
You build a song up using riffs but can have different drummer rhythms for each riff.
For example, in the opening riff you might choose a drummer and go for the 'Intro' or 'Count In' choice. In the riffs prior to the chorus you can use the same (or different) drummer and choose the 'Verse A' part followed by a 'Pre-chorus'.
If you build it up, it makes the finished song sound more natural rather than having the same rhythm all the way through the entire song.

If you want to see it in action, go on to RiffLink and look at some of the songs there and how the drummers are used.
Cheers!
Scott

The drums are separate from the recorded layers on each riff. You can change the instant drummers anytime, even after recording your layers. Each Riff can, and usually does, have a different drum session. The drums are only become permanent on the mix down. Welcome to Riffworks! You'll soon be addicted... Junkies Rule!

Seth try increasing your drummer tempo.....some drummers are better at varying tempos than others. Some will stutter when the bpm is set too low.

I noticed the same thing with the "stuttering drums"... then remembered reading in the manual that it might happen if you play the beat below the recommended tempo (bpm).

I like the guitar playing, mventura.

I too am hooked after recording a song in 2 hours from start to finish, first night with the software!
