Anyone have any clue if this is compatible with Riffworks? I would love to know before I plunk some cash down on one.

An amp with a USB port? Very cool! Didn't Peavey aquire Alien Connections who makes Revalver? Unless you really want a modelling amp, you'd probably get the same sounds from Revalver. I'll check out the Peavey website to see if it has ASIO.

Cool looking amp Shred.....Shred mentions on the
Gator Forums that it has an ASIO disk and an edition of Reaper bundled with it.

From the original Peavey announcement of the Vyper line back in January 08:

"The VYPYR also acts as its own computer audio interface, with a built-in studio-quality USB 2.0 output on most models that is recognized by computers as an audio device."

With that said I would imagine it would work as an audio device within RiffWorks.

It is quite a box..........I was really impressed. But as we all know just cause it has drivers doesn't mean it will work necessarily. I would hate to pay for something that I can't use, for the primary reason I acquired it in the first place. It is pretty new as well.........you guys should check it out!

How cool is that tho.......a great sounding analog distortion modeling amp (it does my 3 fav amps 6505/JSX/XXX) pre stomps, post rack effects, and a USB connection........unreal. I was playing the 2/12 solid state combo and it was window rattling, earth shaking loud!

If Sonoma wants to pick one up, test drive it and then sell it to me for a discounted price that is fine with me ;)

I found my February 2009 issue of Guitar Player magazine in which the Peavey Vypyr is compared with other combos (which are MUCH more expensive). There is concern expressed relating to latency issues via the USB connection. However, the review also states it’s a great value (declares the price “insane” in fact) with many features and good tone.

That is in part what is making me so skeptical about getting one..the prices. They are just too low and it makes me worry......lol

That and I need to know I can use it for USB recording, or it is a waste of time in my opinion.........but it is a interesting amp.

Shred you already got an X3 that sounds great via USB, what do you need the Peavey for?? I think you got some cash burning a hole in your pocket. ;)

My thoughts exactly. I have a Vyper 15 (low end I know) but I rarely use it as I just end up plugging my X3 Live into my studio monitors. I can't be too loud as I'm in an apartment complex. I bought the 15 a while back to have as a practice amp only. I plug the X3 into a PA if I play out at all. The 15 sounds good, but it is hard to get a good clean tone via the amp settings in order to use my X3 with it. That would be a great amp if you didn't already have the X3. I'd suggest getting something more along the lines of an mini stack with a volume control only. That is the next step for me. Just my 2 cents and personal experience.

Hard to believe you guys are talking me out of this.....lol

But all good points to consider, and you guys are right, the Vypyr is not gonna do anything the X3 doesn't already do an amazing job of. Now if the X3 just had a built in 2/12 stereo speaker cab I would be in heaven......

For that money you could get a nice Marshall 2/12 and still have some cash for some other new toy :D
