Hi there. As the subject line states I'm a new RW user. I've played guitar for a long time, but never messed with any recording software. I download RW T4 and now find myself hooked. Anyway I'm debating whether I should purchase the full standard version. Which leads to a few questions

Are the drummer sessions that come with it any good?
Is the quality of the recording much better?

Besides those two factors I'm not sure I will be messing with any of the other features. I can see where the REX player would be handy , but without software to change tempo/length its worthless correct? As far as changing tone and effects I have a Line6 X3 I can use to get the sounds I want.

Anyway a advance thanks for any replies I recieve. The software really is great. The first day I created 3 originals immediately and they sound fantastic. Well atleast to me they do :)

Welcome aboard. Love the handle (Gmaj7).

I don't think you can go wrong with getting the standard version. The drummers are great for getting started, of course that depends on your style of playing.

I've never used the T4 so I can't comment on quality issues, but some of the gurus will stop by and address this, I'm sure.

Not only have you just entered into a wonderful world of effortless recording, but you have also joined the "BEST" online forum in the world.

Look forward to hearing your recordings.

Welcome. The rex is really handy and I use it a lot. Once you load a Rex file the tempo changes according to the tempo you have the riff bpm set at. I'd never used rex files before but it's all very easy. You can download free ones to try out...The drummer that come with the standard are all good, but, limited and you'll soon be buying extras drums pattens, but at 9.99 they are generally good value....I haven't tried the T4 so I can't say, but you have a lot more flexibility with the Standard....You also get some really cool effects, but you may have them on the T4 already....

Hi Jimi,

Welcome to RiffWorks and a life of insomnia and beer! The rule around here is that the 'newbie' buys everyone a beer so dig deep! ;)
RiffWorks Standard has just been enhanced to allow 32-bit recording and we're all noticing a bit difference from the original 16-bit version.
Log on to RiffWorld and listen to the RiffCast section to get a feel for the drummers and quality of recording.
Cheers!
Scott

Welcome "new" guy. You can also log onto Rifflink and listen to different drums for free there, thanks to drum streaming. If you dupe a riff you have drum control of that particular drum session and can tweak away.

I am pretty sure all of the drummers have samples you can listen to if you log into the store. But yeah they are worth getting, and there are many more to add to your collection once you see what I am talking about. Plus very, very easy to use.

As far as recording quality goes, Standard will do 32 bit recording and rendering, where as T4 will only do 16 bit. That alone is worth the upgrade! The X3 is the perfect companion to RWS.....welcome and enjoy!

And isn't T4 limited to just 4 Layers? I could never get away with using that few Layers.

As far as Rex files go, they're the cat's nuts! You can find gobs of free rex files out there on the Internet, and they are MUCH more tempo-independent than Instant Drummers are.

Get RW Standard. It's worth every penny and then some. You'll love it.

Thank you everyone for all the replies. Its seems like a no brainer for me to get the standard version

I have been listening to all the great things people here have composed on Rifflink. The variety of styles and sounds are amazing. Dauntingly so. I'm looking forward to making my own. Hopefully with the same quality.

Yes, T4 is limited to 4 layers "off line" and up 24 when logged in and on-line. And you can't import or export, blah blah blah.. lol.. but hey, when you're poor like me you take what you can get. :) Thanks Sonoma for a free version for us 'po folk... :D
