I don't seem to be able to play one of my songs and be able to hear it thru my headset so I can solo over it. I know this must be something dumb on my part that I've missed.

Thanks for the help

Hi John!

Before anyone can help you we need to know a little more about your soundcards, gear and headset and how you have connected these. Are you using a USB headset?

My headset is connected to my Digitech RP250. When I look at my control panel under sounds it shows my 250 and in and out. Everything works great except for this one function. How does it work? If I have a song in the top bar and click solo should I hear the song to solo over? I would think so.
Thanks

Not really sure what you are trying to do John and there are various ways to record a solo. Without a bit more detail it's difficult to say. can you hear you recorded layers and drums? Are you getting any sound at all? Have you checked out the manual and FAQ:

OK lets try this again, there is a statement in the help section that says after a song is created you can add a solo and vocals over the song. I'm not sure how to do this because if I click on the box marked solo in the song layers box, the song stops playing and I can't hear my song to solo over. I think I'm simly missing a step. I can hear everything fine excpet for this. I suspect the same issue will be there when I try to add vocals to the song.

Hope this is a better explanation.

On another note, I get a message about an unexplained error a lot while recording, I save the file as suggested in a data dump but then the program closes if I don't do a date dump and say no the program locks up. Any thoughts, this is annoying.

Thanks for the help I appreciate it.

When you click solo on a layer you'll only hear that layer, it basically does the reverse of the mute button, click that on a layer and you'll hear every layer apart from that.

Assuming you have all your riffs in the songline, click songlayers and the Riff name will become "Songlayers", then click the red record button and your sequence of riffs in the songline will start to play whilst allowing you to record over them :)

I hope this makes sense mate ;)

Bill
I've been using the software for about a week. I've riffcast two tunes. One is called Into the night and uses the basic structure of Santana's song. The other is original and called Soul Survivor, it leans towards the heavy side. Both are OK but border on boring using the same melody line throughout the song. I've never wriiten before so I have to figuire out some nice turn arounds that fit. I actually casted them so a couple of buddies back east that I used to play with could hear what I'm doing. Both quit playing for some stupid reason. I'm trying to fire them up again. When I retired my playing increased from a couple hours a week to 4 to 6 hours everyday while my wife is at work. I'd love to hear your stuff and learn.

Best regards

I know exactly where you're at now John, and you're going to love Riffworks. I've learned so much about song structure and songwriting just from using it. It does have it's bugs, but there's nothing else out there that'll do what Riffworks does, so most of us here have resolved to put up with the bugs until Sonoma fixes them in subsequent version releases (which they're working on). One word of warning about Riffworks, it's addictive - it's like crack for musicians.

I know what you mean, since I discovered this software, I wake up at night with tunes or lyrics in my head. I know I should get up and write the lyrics while they are fresh but so far sleep has one over that issue.

Thanks for the positive motivation. I know this will make me a better all around musician.
