After reading all these threads (well, just the titles actually) on this forum, and the forum on Line 6, I'm beginning to get the impression that this Riffworks software is complete garbage.

http://line6.com/community/community/support/computer_based/riffworks?view=discussions

I don't see a single thread....not ONE, on either board saying something like "WOW! GREAT PROGRAM!!!"

It's nothing but people having major issues with this thing.

I can't even get the program to "Activate" in my Line 6 Monkey. I've done all that was asked.....click on "Riffworks 2 Line 6 Edition" (in the Line 6 Monkey - Optional Add-Ons window), then click "Activate Purchase", then type "refresh" (all lower case)....and it looks like it's gonna work, but then - when all is said and done....it does nothing.
It STILL says that "Riffworks 2 Line 6 Edition" is INACTIVE.

I really wish that companies would actually work out these bugs before sucking us all into their horse sh*t products.

Now, perhaps I'm wrong, and jumping the gun a bit. But, I was under the impression that Riffworks T4 came FREE when you purchase Line 6 POD UX2 Pod Farm.

Or is it that the software is all that's "free".....but then you have to PURCHASE the Activation Key?

If so, this is a GROSS misrepresentation on Line 6's behave.

Don't suck me into purchasing a product by telling me that something comes "free" with it....only to find out "Ha Ha!!!! - BUT, IF YOU WANT TO REALLY USE IT YOU'LL HAVE TO PAY."

.....that's just horse sh*t!

And after reading all these issues with this product - I certainly ain't gonna purchase it! LOL

Great DEMO though guys! LOL!!!

WOW, RIFFWORKS IS A REALLY GREAT PROGRAM AND RIFFWORKS T4 IS ABSOLUTELY FREE TO DOWNLOAD AND USE AS A STANDALONE WITHOUT PURCHASING ANYTHING FROM LINE6 OR ANYONE ELSE FOR THAT MATTER :)

Get the free version here:-

Sorry you're having problems mate but I, along with countless others, absolutely love this product and everything else that goes with it :)

T4 is free. The Riffworks 2 Line 6 Edition is not. You can download T4 off the front page of SonomaWireWorks.com but you can't get it through Monkey or Line6.com

Sorry for your troubles, hopefully this can get you up and running, because this is one awesome package. If you need further help just post up on this board. The Line 6 board is ok, but this one is awesome.

RiffWorks has far more positive comments than negative I promise you - especially on this forum. Any glitches we are all experiencing just now are primarily Internet-based issues associated with the 'add-ons' to RiffWorks - RiffLink and RiffWorld. The software itself is inspirational.

Todd Rundgren has just recorded his "Arena" album using RiffWorks and if you listen to the songs posted on RiffCaster, you'll see what mere mortals like us are being able to produce.

I can only encourage you to stick with it, move away from the Line6 edition and purchase/crossgrade to the Standard version.
Cheers!
Scott

hmmmmmm.......then why is my Line 6 Monkey saying "Riffworks 2 Line 6 Edition"...???

I used the Riffworks T4 disk to load it. But, in Monkey - it doesn't say a thing about T4....just Riffworks 2 Line 6 Edition.

I want to like it....really. I honestly thought the demo was very cool.

Do I need to uninstall the Riffworks 2 Line 6 Edition (and go to the sonomawireworks page and just download it from there)?

And, if so, I still need to go into Monkey to "activate" it - don't I...???

Thanks for your responses guys.

Actually, now that I'm looking at it, the icon on my desktop says Riffworks T4.

But the info in Line 6 Monkey says "Riffworks 2 Line 6 Edition"

So now I'm totally confused. LOL

Nope, no need to activate it via Monkey if you use T4. The only version tied to Line 6 hardware, and Monkey, is the Line 6 Edition. All others are hardware agnostic.

Download T4 and get yer rock on!

Also this is a support forum, that's why it has lots of support requests. People don't normally register just to say, hey everything works great. I've made at least a couple hundred recordings with it, only ever had minor hicups.

If you have the Line6 version free with a Line6 device, you are better off getting the activation issues sorted out. I'm not an expert, but since it's the Monkey that won't do it then I suspect it's a Line6 issue, but contact the Sonoma support just in case.

The T4 version is a free (but limited) download that you can get free from the Sonoma site and shouldn't have any activation issues. However, the Line6 is fully functional so try and get that working, but is only works with Line6 devices. If you stick with it for a while and find out that you like the program (most do), then it's always best to upgrade to Riffworks standard. If you have the Line6 version you can do the upgrade for $29...

These forums are for general chat and support issues, so you probably won't find threads named....Wow, great program....But you will find loads of posts that say just that. Scott is right, there are some server issues affecting Rifflink and Riffworld at the moment that drive us mad, hence we gripe, but the program itself is an awesome recording interface...But you won;t find that out unless you stick with it a bit. Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

Guitarzan54.
Do not rely on forums too much, give the application it a try (it may seem different if you are coming from other recording applications) and decide for yourself, forums are great when you get stuck somewhere.

In Forums you will always find majority of new comers, or seasoned hardcore users (and more often than not neither of them will discussing how great it is).

All applications have their issues, some of the major issues riffworks users are having are not of the application itself but rather it's community/collab features (which no other practical software of this scope even has).

In a Nutshell all i can say is :

If you wanna feel like the 4 year old, who never wanna give his toy : this is it.

You are short on time and immediately need to put down your ideas : this is it.

You want to focus on music rather than app itself : this is it.

you are teacher, student and need something that seriously could help you/your students better their skill, validate their/your progress : you got the right toolset (all you need is practice and some time).

You are a jingle maker/ad score writer, need to write your stuff fast and need to come up with many variations : this is it.

You drink more beer than water (or are willing to) : You Just might not be the only one ;)

and i could go on and ....

Also the T4 (free) version came quite a bit later than the standard and line6 version. Line6 versions are tied to line6 hardware and only work when one of the authorized line 6 device is connected and afaik that version was not free, i had to shell out for it, but i later upgraded to standard)

Thanks guys.....I'll give it a second go.

Like I said before, I want to like it. The demo kicks butt. And I was so looking forward to actually working with it. But then all this started and it was just another glitch I didn't feel like having to deal with at 8 a.m. this morning.
I just want to be up and rockin' - not having to mess with this thing right off the bat.

But, I'll stick with it for a while and see how it goes.

Thanks so much for all your responses.....I really do appreciate it.

....I never even figured I'd actually hear anything from anyone today.

Very Cool!

Thanks

Glad you're gonna persevere. Honestly, once you've ironed out things you won't be sorry!

As regards this forum and the people who populate it, you will not find a friendlier and more helpful bunch anywhere on the Interweb thingy. Someone is always willing to pass on advice or suggest a solution. We'll all look forward to your first post on RiffCaster.
Cheers!
