Hey..this is my first time here and i havent even tried riffworks yet...but from what i've read it sounds great...I've never done ANY recording with a computer and dont even know much about computers....I'm BRAND NEW to this type of thing...I want to try the free t4 version before i buy Standard and have stupid question...what is the most inexpensive interface that works with riffworks...and is there a way to eliminate the interface and try it just using the mic input on my laptop ...even just for the T4 version...before i buy something i might not use....the program sounds great but funds are limited at this time..thanks for any help at all...NRSTATE

I started out with a basic Line6 Guitar port that I picked up used for $40 bucks and it came the Line6 version of Riffworks. Probably a lot cheaper now though. I since upgraded the software to Sonoma's Wireworks Riffworks which supports a lot of different interfaces and not just Line6 as with Line6's version of Riffworks. (I hope I didn't confuse you)

I suppose you can use your mic input but would need an ASIO driver and can be found on the internet, but I'm not really sure cause I've never tried it, but in theory sounds doable.

My pick would be the Behringer Guitar Link UCG102. $40 at AmericanMusical and Guitar Center. It's a simple 1/4 to USB adapter that uses ASIO.

Yes, you can eliminate the interface altogether if you want. Get an 1/4" to 1/8" adapter and use your "line in" instead of the mic, the mic will work I just prefer to use line in. Of course you have to have an ASIO driver too. Then you can download some VST amp models as well or use what comes with T4, but there are several free VST amps that work good with RW. Those of us on a "TIGHT" budget, (no money) lol, can still use it without an interface although it may not be the "best" sounding, but that's how I've been doing it since I started. You can buy an inexpensive pre-amp and that would help a lot by bringing your signal up to line level. There are a couple on the market for around $30.
Hope this helps and welcome...

Yes, get ASIO4ALL and you can use the Mic input just as well, I just prefer to use line-in. Like I said, it may not give you the "best" sound, but if you play with settings you can do pretty good.

Also check out this thread on free VST's

https://www.sonomawireworks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=6843

And google free VST amp models too. Some work, some don't. It's kind of a hit and miss thing sometimes....

And run a search on VST on the forum, I'm sure there is other useful information in here somewhere... :)
