With V2 and fader control, you can fade each layer in the ending riff but really there is a much easier way. I use Audacity (freeware) to process the mixed song. Not only can you fade in and out, but you can compress/normalize/equalize the final product. Not a bad mastering tool for free.

I agree with ldavis about Audacity. Great tool for the price.

In audacity, select the part at the ending of the song you wish to fade. This can be done by clicking and dragging (highlighting) the end of a song or by placing your cursor where you want to fade and under edit - select cursor to end. Then under effect choose fade out.

In RWS the "info" button on each layer in each riff will show a wave like graphic where you can use your mouse to "draw" a fade in/out..sometimes theres "bars" you lower to control the volume envolope..mix song to riff to apply fade in/out to entire tune..hope this helps..strat...btw,Audacity is great, been useing it for3+ years..

I suppose you could "mix to riff" and just fade the one layer instead of all them?

I am finishing up my first song with Rifftracker, and I need to know if you can fade the drums out like you can everything else? Or is this something you do in the final MIX process? I do not understand the "mix to riff" thing, Please explain??

good info about the fade out, been wondering about that myself... I think your right about fading out individual riff layers ---- you can manually mouse-draw a reverse linearity from some pre-determined point to the end for each and every riff layer -- very time consuming ---- but that technique won't fade out the drummer, or at least I couldn't get it to fade the drummer, maybe that's where "mix to riff" works...

and just to be clear about using Audacity (I've used it to transfer analog music tapes to digital format) to apply the fade out --- do you first have to finish the tune in RiffWorks and save as an Ogg or Wav file, and then access that completed song file with Audacity, and then do a "re-mix" by adding the fade-out to it ---- and then re-save the whole thing again as another Ogg or Wav file???

just looking for more a little more info before I go and mangle everything...

After you have your song arranged and mixed in the Song Bar (at the top of theRiffWorks "rack"), save the song. Then I ususally "save as" another file name like"my song_mix1.rws so you don't mess with the riff arrangement.

Now you have to click on the Mix button and select Mix To Riff. This will record all the riffs in the song bar into one riff. You will see the new riff called MixToRiff.
Drag this up to the song bar and then drag all the other riffs out of the song bar.
Now click the Info button on the new Bounce layer in the lower (layer) window.
You will see a wave form that you can then adjust to create a fade in / out by grabbing the part of the riff that you want to fade. Hold down your right mouse button while dragging it across and down to the left until you get to the beggining of the riff. Drag from left to right the same way to create a fade out at the end of the riff. It should look like this when you are done:

Chris,

The file formats you save to in Audacity depend on what you want to end up doing. You can mix your song in RWS and save to either .ogg or .wav. It doesn't matter which as Audacity will open either.
Once you've done this, open the file in Audacity, apply the fade out/fade in and then;
1) re-save in .ogg if you want to post your song to RiffCaster
2) re-save to .wav if you want to burn it to CD
3) re-save to .mp3 if you want to burn a CD/post to a site like MySpace or NextCat

You're correct about the 'fade' technique from within RWS. Unless you do this on a 'mix to riff', you can't fade out the Instant Drummer.
