Everyone here should be extremely careful as I have the worldwide patent and copyright on talking bollocks and they don't come in 5's, 7's or 15's, even when you're lucky they only come in 2's !!!! ;)

I don't even think Adolf Hitler had a copyright on his one and only, ask Red or Jojo, they may know ;)
No-one remembers what you do or say. Everyone remembers how you made them feel. Allegedly !!!!

Bill - for anatomical reasons, it was impossible for Adolf to hold a copyright on talking bollockS.

He had only one.

From a mathmatical standpoint on an instrument this is rediculas.. We have been making music for thousands of years.. inadvertently inventing stuff over and over lol..
There is no such thing as a new sound.. Plagerism is exactly of very similairly copieing a tune and calling it your own..or using someone elses lyrics verbatim or almost exactly the same... I guess we are all guilty of knowing the same math...
It's cool though my favorite guitarist is david gilmore second is frank zappa so this don't change anything for me... Hey dwitzil zappa and Eddie vanhalen should sue Satriani for stolen scales and then chet atkins could sue eddie vanhalen too... Bah Humbug.. If motzart was alive he could sue everybody..lol

Well, then if everyone played melodies like Yngwie, the general public wouldn't know what the heck was going on, (being how musicians can typecast the general public)

I think they were making reference to Gary as a former Thin Lizzy member because of the time frame, implying, that in 1974 he was involved in a major rock band and again later in the later 70's...they're making an implication to the reference of time that he may had heard that Nordach melody. Moore is definitely one of the more melodic oriented guitarists to come from that timeframe anywho, espcially when it comes to his slow tunes.

Why does everyone accuse Hitler of only having one ball? I think it's an old wives tale. The way I see it, if you want to do what Hitler did, you'd have to have more than just one ball.

Trying to destroy an entire race of people, taking Europe by force, declaring war on the most powerful nations in the world? That would require at least 6 or 7 balls....big ones too.

But alas, Eva Braun and Hermann Göring are probably the only ones who know for sure ;)

Looks like 4 bars or 16 notes is the guideline. But ultimately it is up to the judges ears.

If Beethoven's famous 5th symphony: Da-Da-Da-Dum, Da-Da-Da-Dum, was still under copyright and someone used it as a melody in their composition, that would be infringement. Even though it is only 8 notes the sequence of those notes is undenieably the same to any tin-eared judge.

Here is a bunch of articles from a company that deals with music copyright.

I havn't heard the tracks so I can't say. I really like some of Coldplays songs though. I never got the impression that any of Satriani's stuff was original in any way, even though he's such a great player, he fits right into a mold imo, which is, people that came after Eddie Van Halen, that draw on all different influences and take it to the extreme shred.

Who said this, "Good artists borrow, great artists steal"?

Paul McCartney?

Another blatant lift (re: gary moore ): Steve Vai's Tender Surrender contains a riff from Hendrix's Villanova Junction

yeah, I've heard opening riff to voodoo chile to many times incorporated into modern solos/song parts.
Lets see, extreme used it in a song, and there have been others. Did they pay for it, I doubt it. I heard purple haze inguitar riff during a radio play in the past couple years.

This is about $$, I'm thinking its safe to say Joe could care less what any of us think.
What do you do before suit.. send a cease and desist? I would say he feels pretty strong on that as he could stand to lose alot of cash in the process via taking the legal process, losing his legal action and getting counter sued in some way or by loss in royalties on a hit. Is he entitled to royalties? Well see.

You don't just arbitrarily decide to sue, you get your legal advice and you weigh it all out before you make your moves if you are smart about it.

Firstly I can't believe that these Reuters people still identify Gary as "former Thin Lizzy guitarist". I wonder what they'd call Clapton? "Eric Clapton, formerly with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers"?

...

No that's Eric Clapton former Yardbirds
