hey everyone

Just thought I would pop my head in and say hi and dish out a round of pints

I think I'm finally figuring this app and collab process it uses out. Was messing with things today and came up with some strange (but I think cool) 6/8 prog metal type stuff that I'll probably develop further outside RW. Found out that the "drummer" is not so hot with 6/8 LOL (not unlike a lot of drummers I've played with!) so I stuck with the metronome ;)

Working title: "Shoes of Steel" ... riffcasted here:

LOL Just playing with you man, it's all good.

PHP is ubiquitous and has an ocean of convenience functions and libraries.

PHP is also installed and available on most web servers out there ... which is the biggest appeal for me ;) (well that and people pay me money to write it)

Frameworks are the devil. I write my own code 99% of the time.

Frameworks are probably good if you are heavily involved in the development and know them inside out. Hence the zillions of them I suppose. It's a lot easier to understand your own code than others.

I like the intention behind them. There is a lot of messy drudge work involved in web development and so much other better stuff (RiffWorks + Guitar) to do with your time.

Yes agreed .. but I just prefer to use my own. A couple of reasons .. a) security by obscurity -- I've had to do some panic rescue work for clients in the past that were using canned frameworks and libraries that didn't keep them up to date and ended up being the focus of repeated attacks which resulted in a lot of issues for them and b) as you said I prefer reading my own code ;) When I need new features I add them to my frameworks and they are there for any future jobs.

There are 8 different 6/8 drummers available if you are into purchasing more (usually $10 each; a holiday special going on now gets ya 3 for $20...see below for details).

Here's what's available for 6/8 grooves: http://www.sonomawireworks.com/store/index.php?main_page=advanced_search_result&search_in_description=1&keyword=6/8 I own most of these and they're all pretty good. I don't have 6/8 metal yet but it sounds great from songs I've heard so far!

Only $19.98 for 3 sessions from any single manufacturer:

Add 3 or more Discrete Drums sessions to your cart and get $9.99 off. Coupon Code: DISCRETEDRUMS

Add 3 or more Drummerheads sessions to your cart and get $9.99 off. Coupon Code: DRUMMERHEADS

Add 3 or more Drums on Demand Sessions to your cart and get $9.99 off. Coupon Code: DRUMSONDEMAND

Add 3 or more Sonic Reality Sessions to your cart and get $9.99 off. Coupon Code: SONICREALITY

Add 3 or more Submersible Music Sessions to your cart and get $9.99 off. Coupon Code: SUBMERSIBLE

Thanks Rich ... good info to know. Not really my cup of tea though -- I also play drums and tend to track my own ;) I also don't primarily use RW for recording (I use Digital Performer), just stumbled onto it and figured I'd give it a try as a sketchpad tool
