I have two Fender Teles!! One of these and one of these. There's just nuthin' in the world quite like 'em ;) They have a look and sound that is all their own. I'm not superstitious about it but it jumps out as an obvious thing to me that a Fender always SOUNDS like a Fender and I like THAT sound :)

Recently I bought one of Leo's later creations; the G&L S-500 which is superior in some ways (plays better and is built better that recent American Strats) but it doesn't have the same signature classic Strat sound so, it's not the same. It has its own sound which in some ways is better...at least I think :D

So, here's my question....what's so special about ME that I can't stop trying to find the "perfect" guitar and sound  ;)

It's all part of the game I s'pose....U2 said it best: "I still haven't found what I'm looking for!"

Do bass players and drummers obsess like this?? Hmmmmmmm :/

Strats are all about the single coils and the quack to me. See any modern metal or punk bands playing strats, not really. So no it does not shine at all things, it shines at being a strat, will never sound like a Les Paul and is completely different sounding than a Tele. Plenty of other guitars have their own sound too.

Lots of pros have moved on from their Fender origins, like Steve Morse and Albert Lee who used to be Tele guys. The Stones did the entire Steel Wheel tour playing Sihlouettes. How about Fogerty playing a Petrucci on the grammys, classic! Gibson offered him a lot of dough to play theirs but he said no thanks. Even Tommy Shannon SRV bassist and Fender fanatic is rockin a MM stingray these days, too cool.

cmon man...You can play Punk, Metal, or any other kind of music on a strat!!!!! Just my opinion. There are some people who prefer single coils over Humbuckers when using distortion....claiming the singles have more bite....or attack. ;)

Of course you can. Iron Maiden is a good example, they always had single coils. Just my observation though, when I get out and see some metal bands I never see any strats or Fenders at all really. Lots of Les Pauls though. Go to a blues or classic rock show and its Fenders galore.
