I'm of the opinion that you can never have too many guitars. As long as there's a place to keep them, and time to play them each once in a while, it's all good!
I'm at 21 guitars and basses, but I still desire more. It's the different sounds that attract me, like voices in a choir, except the only way I can hear them all together is with multitracking. That's why I don't have 10 Strats, or 12 Les Pauls, I like the variety, and having the right "tool" for the job.

New guitars make you play new things and help you be more creative one new guitar for every year is fine in my book. Owning guitars is also a bit like the stock market some people have made lots of money just keeping old guitars about the place.

4 acoustics
1 banjo
4 electrics
1 bass
1 mando
1 dobro
2 ukuleles
1 piano
1 midi controller
software, pedals and amps up the wazoo

For some bleep reason, I still feel deprived... I check the mail everyday for the musicians friend catalog. I wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat thinking about more gear and recording stuff. I have dreams about floating around in guitar shops and all the stuff magically appears in my garage. I covet the UA 610 preamp but can't afford it. I watch Lawrence Welk reruns just to see what cool guitar the guy on there is playing...

I have to assume that this is all normal, otherwise I think I'd have a problem...

I think it's normal for a guitar player to have that problem. And now you mention it what's a UA610...I'd better check that out as well, one more thing to add to the list....Doctor Strat, does a Variax cure this syndrome? :)

I can attest to the fact that owning a Variax does NOT cure you. On the contrary, it can have you obsessing over tweaking and collecting tone settings, and the guitar models can lead into getting the itch to own "The Real Thing".

I could not have said better.

I really want a Gibson ES-335. If the Variax model sounds that sweet I can only imagine what the real thing would sound like. Can you say "smooth"?
