Battle of the bands, took place at my high schools of coarse rivalry school. There were 11 bands, and after the show all of which were giving the highest of praises to my band, "I feel proud to lose to you! You guys are freaking genius!!"

When it came time find out the winner, my band got 3rd winning 4 hours of free studio time. In another category the judges called me the 3rd best guitarist of all the bands, which won me a gift certificate to guitars, ect.

But anyway i felt fine about placing 3rd, until i realized who won. In a Rock n Roll BOTB, a screamo band won 1st, i personally thought it was a fashion contest because they all had a different costume on, they have a banana suit man, a panda mask, a tutu, and they even had some random audience member come on stage for a solo and run off stage. How is that even part of the band?!?! Then i came across a comment on their myspace page and it all became clear to me......

"I told you I would get my step dad to get you guys to win!! ;P "

Wow, i thought BOTB could be rigged, but really though?

The stage manager came up to my band after the show and said you guys were hands down the best band here, you were the most professional, most full sounding band. Don't worry about the judges screwing you over, just know you were the best.

Gah, anyway im done ranting for the night :)

So you had a tonne of your peers calling your band's work `genius` and the stage manager said you were hands down `the best band` there.

Sounds terrible. I would have felt cheated too ;)

Just curious about the venue. If you were that good, I would want to figure out how to keep in front of the people that heard you and build from that fan base. Sounds like you got some good stuff although not what you deserve but ultimately its the people that hear you and how can you keep in front of the ones that like you. Did you have cards - flyers to hand out that show your Music site etc. so your fans can keep up with you. Does the promoter, if he likes you, have a way to help out like who was attending? Just some sales ideas. Not trying to ignore your feelings as I know how it sucks when things don't go as they should. I feel cheated sometimes when I lose a competitive sale and I have the better product but I always keep trying to focus on the best part of the experience (we do win loss analysis) and build on that. Maybe the win side of this would be: You may have started or added to your fan base and need to figure out ways to keep them close and informed as you play in these venues and create new songs. The prizes may have been great and could help your band but those fans are gems that need to be collected. Sorry for the crap I would feel bad too but do not let it hold you back. Keep on Truck'n

We were the 1st of 11 bands to play because we had to rush off to another gig we had that night, so we had maybe a third of the audience that the later bands had if we were lucky. I woulda liked to play later in the show for some more people, but eh, whatever. Were in the process of talking to alot more local clubs and venues now, and another BOTB coming up in April which is outside venue which will be fun to crank it up and rock out!

Bastards!

No worries mate, you guys rock, your drummer is the bomb, and next BOTB you're gonna pop 'em right between the eyes. Just try to play late in the show...tell 'em you're in the studio and can't show up till later.

The people know what's up.

I say they bring back those old clapometers where the bix fancy box with the colorful gauge measures the amount of applause!
"I think the problem might have been, that there was a stonehenge monument on stage in danger of being crushed, by a dwarf". "I really think you're making a big thing out of this". "Making a big thing out of it would have been a good idea".

I think the respect of your peers/colleagues is more valuable than any tangible prize and it sounds like they won that. Grand Prize was won by Alex n Co.

Life is unfair and crazy. You should appreciate whatever comes your way and it sounds like you have a got a lot.

@Evan I have a feeling you are going to be in for a prize yourself in a few days :)
