Well, the guys announced that they will be doing a 30 date tour this year. But there's a catch.

Tap is older now, and they've gotten a little grey. Not to mention, they're all doing fine in their own respective careers. So this time around, they're coming sans the hair. Spinal Tap without hair? Yes, apparently Tap has evolved and aged just like the rest of us. Van Halen has short hair. Why shouldn't Spinal Tap?

And oh yeah, they'll also be doing stuff from The Folksmens catalog. Those of you who have seen A Mighty Wind are familiar with The Folksmen. It's funny. I read somewhere that they opened up for themselves one night (The Folksmen opening up for Spinal Tap) and were nearly booed off the stage as The Folksmen, mainly because people didn't realize that they're the same guys.

I know someone who bore witness to a show on the last tour of Spinal Tap back around 99-2000. That said it was a great show, and funny as hell. I did not get to see it. I'll probably try to catch them if they come close enough. Surely, they'll be selling a dvd shortly after the tour.

Anyway, it looks like they know that they'll be aiming for the older rocker demographic. The film has still held its place as a cult favorite, but probably not enough to bring new fans in to the music side of it. Might even end up being a sit-down show. It'll be interesting to see.

"I think the problem might have been, that there was a stonehenge monument on stage in danger of being crushed, by a dwarf". "I really think you're making a big thing out of this". "Making a big thing out of it would have been a good idea".

Yeah, I actually looked a little closer at it. It's not exactly Spinal Tap. They are going out as themselves this time (Guest, McKean, Shearer). Interesting how they throw the Spinal Tap songs into it, but it's not "Spinal Tap".

Spinal Tap isn't even Michael McKean's most famous role. Most people know him from playing Lenny on Laverne and Shirley. Wow he's been in alot of movies and sitcoms. Airheads was hilarious.

Check out this video of Gilmour playing bass for Spinal Tap. What?

Oh man, McKean's been in so many movies it's not funny. I loved him as the neighbor in The Brady Bunch movie. Milo in Airheads was funny as hell. But then again, the entire cast of Airheads was amazing.

Of course, he also came from yet ANOTHER fictional band, Lenny and the Squigtones. That was the name of their band in the Laverne and Shirley series. The Squigtones were one of the few artists to release material on the Casablanca label. They were also one of the few artists on the label to NOT date Gene Simmons....

According to wiki, the only recording they ever did had Nigel Tufnel credited for guitar work, and a photo of the band inside the lp cover that included Peter Criss (billed as 'Ming the Merciless') without makeup. This was in 79.

I don't blame them I guess for not trying to do the whole Spinal Tap thing again, but I'm fairly certain they won't be selling nearly as many tickets when billed as 'Guest, McKean, Shearer', despite the acoustic renditions of Hellhole, Big Bottoms, and Sex Farm. Spinal Tap wasn't all about the music anyway. For most, it was the hilarity of the characters. Without the characters, the songs are simply covers. Imagine that, doing a cover of your own tune!
