Now Bobbit, he wasn't a hobbit, but sod it was he `short`.
Betrayed his wife and left the hearth, til she did retort
Hey lay there bleeding, sobbing, why oh why o why
"Crop my penis?, it's not gods will!, not for you to decide!"
She laughed and said `hahaha` next be Colin White

For you see the folky women
Together they do stick
Beware of marriage treason
If you want to keep your dick

So there you have it, the lack of guitar playing prowess has been superceded by a wife with a knife....so take your pick and pluck it or something sounding similar

Hey, I won't talk about speed, chops, technique, string skipping and related.

One day a good jazz player friend of mine told me to focus only in one thing, and it's not even chord progressions (harmony) neither improvisation.

"It's all about the melody"

I've been thinking this over the past 5 months and it is really the main difference that people make or call your attention, not even tone, it's just the melody.

Best songs created all over the world are those which you are whistling and remain in your subconscious for a long time.

Therefore, playing and creating melodies is a good start to forget for a while technique, theory and harmony as a good break. Start singing it, play it in a guitar, and you'll see that even that you can do it on the piano or another instrument:

Remember that usually the instrument chooses you, and it's not the other way around.

la la la laaaa la laaa bum bum

And don't forget keeping rhythm/beat!!! It has to go linked with your melody, 12 notes and proper use of intervals, are the key to most musicians You, I, everyone around make love music.

Ask Michael Jackson for instance ;)

When there is only the timelessness of absorption into the music and no concept of future how could you be impatient?

Treat whatever drills you have like a meditation. I find playing a long with a loop very helpful for that. When your mind wanders take it back to the loop.

Learn some breathing exercises, deep breaths into your diaphragm help with concentration and relaxation.

I really agree with what Mozzarello wrote regarding melody. It's the part of the song that you'll wind up humming in your head the next day (if it's good). The best part is that inspiration for melodies can come from anywhere.

I remember reading an interview with Vai from back in the day where he said he gets ideas for melodies from human speech. He'll record someone speaking a sentence, then turn their inflection into notes on a guitar. So you could speak the words, "pooter is a righteous dude" then turn that into a short melody on guitar. Try it out! :D

The Great Master of Sitar, Ravi Shankar, refers to the same idea when it comes to the sitar. I can't quote him but it was something like, take the voice to the sitar.

Well a mandolin is certainly cheaper than a wife, but if you really want something to drive you towards your guitar get a wife. The effect only works after you've had one for a year or two though...:)

heh, that wont be for a while for me.
I'm 18. still young and dumb (aparently).
girls have been a load of bad experiances for me so far (as per one of my old riffrumble enteries). I've gotten it down to, maybe I'm too much for em.
the biggest thing for me to do is contemplate existance of life and matter... but i wont get into that here.
