Hey Jack,

Check out Avatar Speakers. I just bought one of their Vintage 2x12 cabs with Celestions and it sounds great! $428 all together and that included shipping and selecting the 2 speakers of my choice (I went with a Hellatone-60 and a good ol Greenback). I know that's at the top of your price range, but they're really well built cabinets, you won't find better quality for less money. They also have a "scratch and dent" section on their website that changes often where you can find used cabs even cheaper than that. Besides, your ol grandad's gotta be good for a few more bucks! ;)

The TBX is plenty loud. Granted, it is solid state, but it's still 150 watts of solid state. That's more than enough to blow your head off. What kind of cabinet are you running it through? Are your ohms matched on the head and cab?

i have no idea i think its a crate, its a 2x12 with celestions, but its not just the loudness its the hiss and hum, i cant get rid of it, ive done everything but a noise gate through the gain channel, ive messed with the tone, im just stuck, dont know if to try a metal zone pedal and use a noise gate, or just try to take it back and go for a b-52 tube amp

The distortion channel on the TBX sucks. Run a Pod through the clean channel, use the Pod's built in noise gate and you should be fine. If you're telling me you're running the amp at full volume and it's still not very loud, that would tell me that you could have an impedance mismatch, i.e. the cab is 4ohm and your head is 8ohm. If you don't know what kind of cab / speakers you have, figure it out! This is important! Having mismatched impedance can and will ruin your equipment. The TBX, while it's no tube amp, is still plenty loud.

thats the thing i have been for the past 3 weeks, were going to take it to the store and check it out, if there isnt then ill just get a refund and go for like the valveking so i dont have to mess with to many pedals other than a gate haha!

Funny you mention a ValveKing. When I bought my TBX I ran it up against a ValveKing at the store. I was expecting the opposite outcome, but to my surprise it was the ValveKing that sounded sterile and flat with no balls. The Ibanez (at least on the clean channel) blew it out of the water for a natural fat sound. Maybe you'll have a different result. Good luck!

The only really thing that the valve king blows me away is the warm feeling of the hot channel and how you can get such a good sound from just the amp, only problem is..... u need a noise gate
