Ok, so I was thinking...let's share some musical influences that may be a bit outside of the mainstream. Good to get ideas for new music. Think of 5 killer songs that are not popular but we should check out. I'll start......

1. Jeff Buckley - Morning Theft
2. Temple of the Dog - Reach Down
3. Stir - Only a dream
4. Glen Phillips - Cleareyed
5. Edwin McCain - Prayer to St. Peter (John Gorka cover)

Ok, your turn......

Here are some from me

1. Neil Finn "Sinner"

2. Radiohead "Paranoid Android"

Side note - The best full album I've heard in a long time is Iron and Wine's "Shepard's Dog" album. Great road trip album.

An older song from them, "Such Great Heights" is a GREAT song too.

1. Masters of Reality - The Blue Garden
2. Corrosion of Confomity - Albatross
3. The Ohio Players - FOPP
4. Eric Burdon - Spill the wine
5. El Chicano - Tell Her She's Lovely

It was hard to remember and pick what songs were a big influence on me, and I'm not sure these are all non-mainstreamed bands/songs, but were good tunes non the less.

Enjoy!

Neil Finn is *awesome* muso! Wrote SOOO many good songs. His son is quite good too. He's right into loop based music. He'll be on stage running around like a maniac between instruments layering up stuff. `RiffWorks live` You can tell he grew up in a studio :)

My old man actually helped build his studio in NZ. Reckons Neil had like 30 guitars and 450k worth of racks.

Awesome idea Rich...here's mine (no particular order)

1. Apes and Androids (Nights of the Week)

2. Brett Dennen (San Francisco)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IC4UUMpaKbo

3. The Delays (Long Time Coming)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adpZ1YWjvNI

4. Ed Harcourt (Revolution in the Heart)

I love all of these...they're on constant rotation on my IPod at the moment...

BTW Rich...I saw Jeff Buckley at the old 9:30 club in DC in 1995 with maybe 100 people in the audience...I'll never forget it. He stopped in the middle of "Grace" to ask the bartender for a glass of red wine. :)
