...did I ever mention that I consider Dann Huff to be one of my bigger influences? Flashy Guitar Playing, that's him to the max! Just look at this:

(if you don't like the song, skip forward to the final solo starting at 5:20)
And for the Huff-addicts, here's a whole series of him giving insight into his music:

He plays the guitar as if it was a toy, a toy that serves to make you and everyone around you happy. He does every trick in the book, the speed, the squeals, the tapping... Now one could argue that this doesn't have "the Blues", in the sense of depth and feeling. I know that many musicians draw their roots from Blues players that don't play more than 4 or 5 notes per bar, and that's cool and fine with me too.
But on the other hand, especially when I watch Jazz guitarists playing single note lines without distortion, without bendings, without all those great techniques that make the guitar squeal and ring and dive and dazzle - I ask myself: Now where is the sheer amazing fun in that??
The sheer, over-the-top fun that comes out of Randy Rhoads' playing, Jake E. Lee too, Zakk Wylde, Dann Huff, Slash, Dave Meniketti... that's the fun that makes Guitar Hero such a resounding success. And justly so!!
In any case, should anyone of you know Mr Huff personally - I'd so much like to spend an hour of Master Class with him and have a beer afterwards, next time I'm over in the States!
