It's called a turn signal or directional indicator. Get it. You use it to tell your fellow drivers that you plan on changing lanes or you plan on leaving the road you are on. Why is that concept so difficult to grasp? Do people not signal their intentions because it is just too difficult to turn the signal on while talking on the cell, eating lunch, putting on make-up or shaving all at the same time? Or is it because we have just lost the practice of common courtesy? I think some people feel as though they are giving information to the enemy. What's your take? Do you use your turn signal? Do you think it is important or necessary?

Thanks for letting me rant. I feel better now. I love this forum. Have a great day!

What's your driving irritation?

Makes ya wonder why they even put the thing in vehicles sometimes. I use mine religiously all the time and think it very important, it lets other drivers know your intentions, that is if they don't wait till the very last moment to turn it on. I commute over 100 miles a day, and witness all kinds of stupid and or inconsiderate drivers daily. I also run the same roads as Flex... :)

and why does it take sooooo loooonnnnngggg for people to make a right hand turn? they get halfway thru and then kinda stop, totally clueless to where they are going. this is miami, where everyone drives 20 mph or 120 mph, no in between. turn signals? yeah right...when they do use them it's a very big deal and it means they are changing lanes right now whether there is someone there or not. and of course they blue haired folks ALWAYS have them on when driving straight. thanks BD, feel much better!!

I thought my right back signal was in-op so I ask a co-worker here in Alabama if it was working and his reply was, "yes....no....yes....no..."

I've lived in a lotta big cities - Miami, Atlanta, and I have to say by far the worst drivers I've ever come across was when I lived in Tampa for a few years.

Problem down there was immigrants, and I mean FRESH off the boat, coming from countries where roads are made of dirt and there really are no "rules of the road" other than "get there quicker than the other guy".

In my little town the people who even bother with turn signals hit them while they are turning and not a second before. I guess they don't want me to confuse turning into a side street with the driveway on the corner. It's pretty frustrating, but there are quite a few idiots around here. My daily commute is about a mile so I've learned to shrug it off.

For us motorcycle types - it's greatly appreciated when a driver uses their signal! 2x last year I had close calls due to cars changing lanes without warning.

Ok the only thing that really bothers me to the point of boiling blood in my veins is when people speed through parking lots where lots of people are walking on foot and with children. That and the people who try to run me off the road telling me they can fix that small dent for $20.

Bingo........that's Miami in a nutshell......were some drivers have never driven nothing but a donkey with a mutha-ucking stick before coming to Miami......and then going to the DMV, who basically pass everyone.........next thing you know they're behind the wheel of a large automobile and NOT using there frikken turn signal! Oh that's what that little switch/handle is for! Stop sign? What's that? Me taught red meant go! Green go? I wait for a different shade of green. Yield.....means cut you off!

Aww don't even get me started. :/ :)

That's exactly why I sold my bike years ago......wouldn't even dream of driving a 2 wheeler nowadays in Miami.
The drive to work here from North Miami Beach to Key Biscayne is a 21 mile trip......most of it on I-95 South.....an adventure so to speak........I get out of the car and kiss the ground every day upon arriving safely......... :)

He he.

Here in Stockholm there is an unspoken law that states that if you own a Mercedes or a BMW then trafic regulations do not apply to you; signals, directional lights, stop signs, red lights, whatever, you don't have to bother. And if something happens, then it's definitely not your fault (ofcourse).

And by the way, I'm on a road trip vacation through the Baltic countries (Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia) and it seems like they take very lightly on trafic rules here, it's really like living on the edge when driving for 5-6 hours a day here :-)
