A quick google search came up with some not so good reviews. The one complaint that stuck out is the tremelo not being very good at keeping tune.

yes i read that to. and this to
http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/reviews/electric_guitars/ibanez/jem_555/index.html

and the criticism is both good and bad!
what i know is that it should have the edgeIII tremolo and the staying in tune problem is solved! i gues i have to play it and see with my own eyes and ears!
but i sure looks good and a afordable price

If your thinking on this being your "go to" guitar, then you have to play it first. If you buy it new at a guitar store, see it, play it, and walk out with it the same day. Don't order a new one, or put it on lay-away. May be that the one they give you will not be the one you played when trying it out. It happend to me, I played a guitar, loved it, then put it on lay-away, then when I went to pick it up upon my last payment, they came out with a new one in the box. Didn't mind at first and thought, wow a "new" guitar, but when I played it, it didn't feel the same and ended not liking it and taking a $500 loss after selling it at a much lower price than what I initially bought it for.

I have played that model, and several other JEM/RG series as I am big fan of those guitars. I really think the JEM series are way over priced, and not worth the $$$ just cause Steve endorses them. I personally think you're better off getting a decent RG model and replacing the stock pups with the Evolutions (or in my case the Seymour Duncan Blackouts).

I find regardless of the float trem type....you need a stabilizer of some sort. Some of the better RG models have them built in now, but there is always the hipshot tremsetter option as well to fix the dreaded float tuning issues. I am going to add one to my RG1570 in the coming week.

+1 on the Hipshot tremsetter. I installed one on my Strat (and we all know how notorious Strats are for losing tune with even mild trem use), and now I don't have any tuning problems at all.

trik, if you really want to piss off the guys at the guitar store, play nothing but Stairway to Heaven over and over....badly :)

Not sure what your price range is, but maybe check out an AX40 Sterling By Musicman at the low end.

http://www.sterlingbymusicman.com/main.html?dir=guitar_ax40

Or higher end look for a new or used Axis with liscensed floyd and great sounding Dimarzios, or even an Axis Super Sport with same pickups and five way split coil wiring like this.

1. Bridge Humbucker
2. Outside coil of each
3. Both Humbuckers
4. Inside coild of each
5. Neck Humbucker.

So many useable sounds!

its unbeliveble! i went to all the big music stores!
no one had any ibanez guitar that i was looking for, just the cheap ones.
but what they had alot off is fender and gibsons, they had all sorts off them from 2000-6000 euros!
i asked about the musicman and the answer i got was no you have to order one!
same with the ibanez guitars!
the only place they had a desent guitar thats not a fender or gibson is at the local music store. but then it was the wrong tremolo!
they are going to give me a call if they can order a ibanez jem 555 or a 7 just for me to try! i dont have to buy it! thats service minded!

Same issue here in Canada.....all the cheap Ibanez guitars are everywhere, but good higher end ones are never in the stores. The sales guy at L&M told me they just don't sell a lot of Ibanez guitars over the $500 bracket, so they don't stock them. When I found my current guitar the RG 1570 in the store I grabbed it instantly!

I end up having to drive to major centers hours away to ever get a chance to try the other Prestige models. Either that or order online, but I like to play and hold the guitar first before I plunk any cash down.

Best of luck on your search man!
