Topic: Total newbie question

So have Line 6 UX1, friggin' love it! Also have Riffworks T4. Joined community, set up profile then want to riffcast but every time I try yo do this I can't find the jam or riff or anything to post. I am a total newbie witht his so please bear with my inexperience. Love both products but want to share in the community. And is there any easy way to take my riff and send a link or something to another sight ex. Facebook or what have you? Any and all help is greatly appreciated, Thanks, Bill

Re: Total newbie question

There were some problems, but they seem to have been sorted. It does depend on the time of day you post. I quite often have a black-out between 2-5pm GMT. But what ought to happen you press RIFFLINK button [I log on to riffcast just in case] and up pops a screen for your browser. If you've some linux black magick going on, maybe that's the problem! Next you fill out the details, but in the description just keep the text in one line and don't press return [For whatever reason mine don't post when I do that. You can correct it later using EDIT in riffworks]. Finally, after filling in your user name and password and pressing agree, you'll see your song being played super fast as it uploads to the site, so the VU meter is going mad! After that give it like 20 minutes and it'll be posted. Hope that helps!

Re: Total newbie question

Hey Bill! Welcome aboard!!

Two ways to post a song - a) one from within RiffWorks and b) one from RiffWorld.
For the former, check Step 2 of the RW guide here -> http://www.sonomawireworks.com/guide/in … RiffCaster
For the latter, you need to have saved your song out of RiffWorks and on to your hard disk by using the 'Mix' function (save it as a .ogg file). Then, log in to RiffWorld and go to your profile page. Click the "New Riffcast" button and add the data about your song that you want to publish and upload the .ogg file from your hard disk.

Cheers!

Re: Total newbie question

Download Audacity and convert your file to ogg vorbis (.ogg)

It's free software. Just google it.

Re: Total newbie question

T4 should mix down to either .wav or .ogg files without needing anything else. Audacity's good for converting to .mp3 if you want to upload to other websites.

Cheers!

Re: Total newbie question

It's also good for fade out/in.

Re: Total newbie question

thanks will download today. Also how do I mix from 4 tracks then overdub more tracks or do I need to buy more stuff?

Re: Total newbie question

You can mix your 4 layers down to 1 layer within the Riffworks program. Put your riff or riffs into the songline and click the mix button, click mix to riff in the box that comes up (rwr option). This will give you a single riff called "Bounce" which you can then add more layers to.

Hope this helps mate smile

Unlike the old four track recorders where bouncing 4 tracks in to one to free up the other three was the only way to create more tracks than you physically had, RiffWorks can create many layers (up to 24 in any one riff block). Effectively, you can multitrack to your heart's content (as long as you have a good enough system with enough RAM).
If you want to make more than 20 layers per riff, bouncing things down as Bill says, will give you even more flexibility but, whereas you can control FX, volume, panning etc. on individual instruments (where each instrument has it's own layer), you can't do this on a bounced riff.

Cheers!

Re: Total newbie question

Riffcaster has been buggy lately they are working on a fix. I have to upload .ogg with google chrome as my browser, it does not work for me with internet explorer. I am also not able to riffcast from within the program at this time.

But he is using T4 which only has 4 layers per riff smile

Not bad for an old bloke with a broken ankle - well spotted! tongue
A good reason to upgrade to RWS though. wink
