Topic: Mic question

Hi

I recently received my GuitarJack2 and looking to start recording with it.

I have a query about what input to use with an SM58 for recording vocals. Should I be using the 1/8 inch mic input (via an XLR to 1/8 inch adapter cable) or the 1/4 inch intrument input set to LO-Z (via an XLR to 1/4 inch adapter).

Also, does it matter whether I get a stereo or mono adapter (XLR to either 1/8 or 1/4 inch)? My understanding is that it's a mono signal from my mic, right?

Sorry, if these are daft questions!

Cheers
Damien

Re: Mic question

There is no such thing as a dumb question! smile We're all trying to learn more about audio. First off, thanks for using GuitarJack! Either input would work. This reviewer is using an SM58 with the 1/8 input. He recommends adding a boost and even links to a $5 adapter you can buy. http://www.lifeisaprayer.com/review/aud … udio-inter

If you plan to use both a microphone and guitar at the same time, this would be the way to go.

Yes the SM58 is a mono microphone, so a mono adapter would be best. Thanks again,

Re: Mic question

does the 1/8" input on the guitarjack 2 supply the bias 1.5+V "plugin power" for little stereo mics that need it?  i use this one and currently it needs a special, rather cumbersome, battery supply accessory (it'd be nice to do away with that):

thanks in advance for any info you have on this!
