RiffWorld, RiffLink and the forums have been undergoing maintenance, so these services have been unavailable or not working as properly as they should during the past few days. Once these services are completely relaunced and we've worked out the bugs, you should notice a significant speed increase. While new features won't be apparent quite yet, the new platform will make it easier for us to make improvements in the future. Thank you for your patience while the bugs remain apparent. We look forward to hearing your music on a snappier RiffWorld later this month!
Artist Spotlights: Chris Stein (Blondie) & Brad Gillis (Night Ranger)
This month's Artist Spotlights include two legends of Rock and Pop. Chris Stein of Blondie explains how he used DrumCore to write demos for the forthcoming Blondie album, while Brad Gillis of Night Ranger reveals how Discrete Drums is his weapon of choice when it comes to percussion tracks.
Chris Stein (Blondie)
With hits like "Heart of Glass," "Rapture," and "Call Me," Blondie has earned their place among the greatest American bands of all time. In addition to chart topping hits, Blondie became famous for bringing several genres in to the pop mainstream including rap, reggae, and disco. Decades later, Blondie is still reinventing itself, with a new album set for late spring. We had a chance to chat with Blondie's guitarist Chris Stein, an enthusiastic DrumCore user. Chris shared some inside info on the latest Blondie album, his studio techniques, and how Drumcore has sped up his workflow. "I used DrumCore in practically every demo, I gotta say. I wound up using it for everything." More in the Chris Stein (Blondie) Interview
Brad Gillis (Night Ranger)
Look up "Rock God" in the dictionary, and you'll see a snarling picture of guitar legend, Brad Gillis. In addition to supplying innovative solos and catchy riffs for Night Ranger, Brad has also supplied music for big name TV networks, movies, and the legendary Ozzy Osbourne. With rock credentials like that, Brad has established himself as one of the top rock guitarists of our time. We caught up with Brad at Winter NAMM 2010, where he informed us he'd fallen in love with our Discrete Drums product line. We called Brad up to see how he uses Discrete Drums percussion sessions in his production work. "I've been using Discrete Drums for quite a few months now. It's a great tool for putting together song ideas for Night Ranger." More in the Brad Gillis (Night Ranger) Interview

Rock-jazz-metal-funk-ethno-alt grooves from the pulse of Jane's Addiction.
Stephen started playing drums at 8 years old. At 13, he bought his first pro drum kit and started lessons with Jim Engle and Joel Gallant. In 1983 he started Dizaster with his friend Dave Navarro and in '86 joined Jane's Addiction (which Dave also joined 2 weeks later). When the first Jane's album came out in 1987 it helped to define a fresh, alternative LA sound. Stephen's powerful, hybrid grooves mixed funk, punk, metal and ethnic ingredients into a tasty flavor as diverse in influences as LA itself and filled with punk energy. His innovative playing also propelled other great bands that include Porno for Pyros, Banyan and The Panic Channel.
