Hi, I have yet another rewire recording question. Riffworks seems to have a lot of caveats when it comes to using a rewire application to do additional recording.
I want to be able to use a vsti synth to record a pad in real time within Riffworks. Unfortunately I have found that the process isn’t very straight forward. Here is what I tried so far:
I launch Riffworks as the host mixer program then I launch Acid 6 pro as the client I then can call up one of my favorite synths. Acid sees my controller keyboard just fine. So far so good. I then activate the Acid 6 pro rewire channel in Riffworks. Then test the softsynth with the keyboard. All the level meters in riffworks move fine. So far so good.
Of course if I go to layers and hit record only guitar port riffs will record even though I can play the keyboard and hear the synth. The next thing I tired was to record in Song Layer mode and discovered that once you hit the song layer block the backups window is grayed out and the message “there are no backups in the song layers” I’m screwed. The only thing left is to pre record the synth riff and then “mix to layer” then and only then will it “render” the audio from the rewire device. Unfortunately, Acid 6 does not allow recording when it is running in slave mode. This totally sucks. If anybody has a solution, I’m all ears.
One last comment.
For all the things that Riffworks does do, and it’s a lot. The things that it does not do is can be stifling at times. I know that it was not the intent of Sonoma to create a midi program but wouldn’t it be great if it could handle at least some midi and vsti tools. I hope and pray the next version will. Thanks
