I just took you up on your 5$ discount-offer and downloaded a new drum session. As I´m trying to install it, I´m facing a problem that I already had with the Matt Sorum/Barebones sessions when originally setting up the RW 2 L6 program.

I´m double-clicking the downloaded file and it says: Session installed.

Then, I´m launching RW, but upon starting up an error message pops up telling me that the files are missing and that I need to activate or re-download them. Here´s a screenshot:

After showing this error message, RW opens a browser window which leads me straight to the drummer session catalogue on SWW online.

I´ve tried re-downloading and double clicking various times, to no avail. What can I do?

I had the same problem. It happened because I reinstalled RW2 Line 6 edition and It went away after I installed the drums in the designated folder. (I used to have them in a folder that I designated myself when I uninstalled RW2 I was afraid they dissapear). The drums should be in folder C/programFiles/SonomawireWorks/something/drummers... Hope this helps

I had it in the program>>>blah blah>>>drummers folder and it worked fine but Dave or Dug (can't remember) told me it would be better if in the following:
documents and settings/all users/application data/sonoma wire works/drummers

if you don't see the application data folder you will have to go into your settings to show hidden folders

Thanks camaro. I just checked - the three drum session files indicated in the error message popup are there, in that very application data folder... I´m at the end of my wits...

redbaron,

You have probably taken care of this already, but its worth double checking. After creating your account on our store, did you download your Register Line 6 Edition application from our store and run it? If you haven't, try downloading it from your 'My Account' link on our store, and run it. If the drummers are in that directory, it looks like a problem with activation. There has been quite a bit of confusion surrounding the requirement to run the Register Line 6 Edition application, but it is the only way we can authorize you to use Instant Drummers from our store.

This actually might be the one, because indeed i never ran that registration app. But unfortunately, when I just now tried to do that, the application told me that I apparently hadn´t installed RW l6 Ed. - in other words, the registration app couldn´t find the RW installation. So I uninstalled and re-installed RW again. No change.

But I feel that we´re edging closer to the solution...

That is definitely the problem then. Where did you install RiffWorks Line 6 Edition? Unfortunately, the registration app won't find the installation unless you put it in the default location on your C drive. Making it do a better job of finding your installation is something we're working on, but for now its best to install in the default location.

...re-installed it in the default folder, and bingo!, everything is working. Thanks!

But have I completely overlooked something, or is all of this nowhere described or comprehensively explained? I have the feeling that it was a long way from the purchase to ultimately having everything in order... How should anyone know that installing the program in a different folder as the default one heavily influences the running of the program? This is somewhat irritating as it was not the case with RW 1... That registration app is new, too, and as far as I remember, it´s not mentioned anywhere at L6 nor in the installation how-tos I read. But then, why should it - apparently that app is only necessary if you download more drummers. But don´t most users do that?

The Line 6 Registration instructions are in our guide:
http://www.sonomawireworks.com/guide/index.php/RiffWorks_Line_6_Edition

They are also pointed to from the front page of our website as well as from within RiffWorks Line 6 Edition when the you choose "buy more drums" from the InstantDrummer Session pull-down menu or click RiffCast from within the app: http://www.sonomawireworks.com/register_line6edition.php

Sorry for your trouble. We are working on making it easier and more clear. Glad it's working for you now!

You are right. It isn't exactly clear. It isn't exactly smooth. We are in the process of fixing this and improving it. Here is a short list of the improvements that future Line6 edition users will experience.

-One download for register app and drummers. One click to install them all.
-Installer does a much better job finding and registering RiffWorks Line6 edition.
-Web browser drummer rename bug fixed. ([1] etc...you probably didn't hit this one)
-Non-SSE AMD process crash on launch (you probably didn't hit this one either)

We also plan to improve the instructions for how to register RiffWorks.

Thanks for hanging in there!

All of your promises are all fine and good, but it is obvious that your product upgrade is not ready for prime time. This in the long run will cost you more than waiting to put it out 'till it's ready to ba ae painless as we've come to expect.
I'm totaly turned off by the experience myself. I don't mind spending money but I sure as hell hate wasting my time.

jhall5,

I can definitely appreciate your comments. The root of the problem is that the Line 6 Edition is a Line 6 product and uses a completely different copy protection, licensing scheme that we didn't develop. We actually have spent quite a bit of time to enable Line 6 Edition users to even be able to use Drummers from our store. The easiest solution would have been to just not allow it. RiffWorks Line 6 Edition users would only be able to buy drums from Line 6. RiffWorks Standard users could buy drums from us. Actually, we would have made more money in that sort of model by forcing everyone to cross-grade to get more drummers. But we really didn't want to abandon any users who wanted to pay for the lower cost upgrade or possibly stay Line 6 customers just because they like Line 6. Since our copy protection is not compatible with their distribution methods, we have to physically patch your copy of RiffWorks to work with our store. I think we all wish there was a better way to do it, but there just isn't. We can and will try to make the requirements more clear. It can't be totally seamless because you're buying the application from one company and buying add ons from a completely different company.

You mean I didn't have to buy a new computer?

I have since resolved my "issue" through Trial error and luck.
And Admin Dave has cleared up the "politics" of it for me.
I may well just buy the Standard edition of Riffworks to free me of the Line6 SNAFU.
Though I LOVE my POD XT Live, Line6 really does tie you to a tight yoke.
Kudos to them for being very successfull at preventing piracy against them but it sure is to the shegrin of some of us paying customers.
