Hello, I recently got a Macbook Pro with the intel chip, and I am having great difficulties with Riffworks standard. I used the Windows XP version without any real problems, but I can't get it to do anything on OSX. When I launch the program the cursor turns to a watch and stays like this and dosent change back to the regular pointer. I cannot click on anything and everytime I want to close riffworks, I must do the force quit. Also when trying to install the drummers, I double click on the icon and it opens riffworks if its not open and tells me that the drummer cannot be found and takes me to the sonoma store to buy it. I am really confused by this and really dont understand why this isnt working correctly. Thanks!

lpstandard1977,

It really shouldn't crash or hang the application, but we do require an device that has input and output. Unfortunately, the Intel Macs publish their input and output as separate devices. You have to create an aggregate device. Follow this instructions here and let us know if that fixes it.

I tried doing makeing the device like you mentioned, but it did not seem to do anything for the problems. In the audio/midi section what should I have for the input and outputs in the system settings part. If it helps at all, the guitar port does not produce sounds, and Reason does not see guitar port as a legitimate sound output, ie: it puts a red X next to it when I select it as my output. The built in audio as the output works though. Thanks.

Do you have the GuitarPort plugged in when you're trying to launch RiffWorks? Could you try launching without it just to see if that is the problem? You mention that you can't use the GuitarPort on your MacBook. Have you downloaded and installed the most recent Gear Box application and drivers from Line 6. Intel Mac support was only recently added.

I had to loan out my Intel Mac, so I don't have the screen in front of me. But... After creating the aggregate device that has both Built In input and Built In output, you should try selecting that device as your default input and default output. Name the aggregate something else, so you can tell the difference.

I unplugged the guitarport and Riffworks worked! I did install and run the most recent version of gearbox and monkey, but I guess there are still major bugs with it. This appears to be a problem for Line 6. Thanks again for your help!

I tried this.. First time I ran riffworks it recognized the input but the crashed. Next time I tried to load riffworks it would not recognize the aggregate device. i tried deleting and recreating the aggregate device, but it appears the aggregate device editor may not be working correctly any more. When I select both input and output the device only shows as either have 2 in or 2 outs.. It takes whichever I select first... So if I make a device, select input first, then output, it shows the device as only having 2 in.. Does that make sense?

Is there any way to fix this problem??

I'm not sure about the aggragate editor thing, but I had my guitarport plugged in a usb hub, and as soon as I took it off that and plugged it straight into my computer everything worked as it should and I haven't had any problems with crashing or hanging since I did this.

oddly.. After trying to trash preference, and a bunch of other things that didnt work.. i went back and added in this order and it worked.. although i havent tried to record anything.. but i can at least playback projects w/o line6 connected..

add built in output, then built in input, then mic... Now I have a device w 2 in and 2 outs.. although it should really be 4 ins and 2 outs... but at least its working temporarily for output..

joemx,

I'm not sure why the aggregator thing isn't working all that well for you, but I am a little concerned about your setup for stability reasons. The aggregate devices work great when their clocks are sync'd, but there is no guarantee that they will work properly when they are using a different digital clock. I know I'm probably sounding a bit cryptic, so I'll sum it up. You probably want to turn on "resample" in the device aggregate editor for the mic input as I'm not sure that it shares a clock. If it works, you might want to just leave it for now, but be warned in case something funky starts happening like glitching on one of the inputs.
