I was trying this before with version 1 with limited success. But now using version 2, I am back at it and getting better results.

I am running my Behringer GMX into the GP from the headphone out and clicking on the effects tab. It seems to work quite well, and in this instance not having to launch GearBox or any other modelling software is a real advantage.

I have to tweak my amp seeting cause as we all know headphone output always sounds different the amp speakers, but the tone going into RW is really great.

I have never really found my sound using GearBox, I am told I need the amp pack addon to get that kind of Mesa sound I can get out of my trusty Behringer. But even then I am still not totally sold on GB, Amplitube or GR2. I am a picky SOB......LOL

Is anyone else trying amps direct into RW2? What kind of results are you getting and do you have any links to tunes recorded using this method? I am workig on one now, that will not be ready for the RR4 sadly......but if I get something I am happy with finished it may spell the end of GB on my computer.

I guess I do not need the GP using this method either, as I could bypass that and simply plug into my sound card directly.........anyone doing that with some suggestions on configuration?

Any input? Anyone?

What? No RR4 song?

All of this is cool, one thing I'd point out is you would need to have an ASIO driver for your soundcard if you really want to record directly into it. Also might want to try a dynamic mic into the GuitarPort and mic that amp...just like they did in the "old days" LOL

I was thinking about miking it, but I am just too lazy to get that carried away. Leave it to me to try everything but the method all of this was designed for. Now running a cable to the GP from the amps is simple enough I can handle that one.....LOL

I thing you will be surprised how nice the guitar sound will be from the headphone jack. Definitely easier and better in version 2.....

Hay Shred, whatever gets the sound you want bro! There's an Extreme song which Nuno recorded the guitar track through one of those Marshall stacks you wear on your belt, with headphones wrapped around it as the mic because he couldn't wait to get to the studio. He liked the sound so they kept it. No rules...just right!*

G'day,

J.J.

* The exception would be when I put a "Mr. Microphone" into my acoustic guitar so I could get distortion out of it (and be on the radio too)...I believe that could be just plain wrong!

of course his playing style is mucho much mo different then yours but you'll get the idea...
I was gonna e-mail you on the subject of DIing the GMX...... what kind of cable do you use on the headphone out to the GuitarPort? Stereo or regular 1/4 ....or some kind of adapter.
I'm dying to DI my Crate Palomino the thing is a monster......and the GMX as well as my Spider 1

I am just using a standard guitar cable.........planet waves..........

I tried running from the line outs both left and right, and coupling them at the GP but it wasn't a noticeable differecne in sound quality compared to the headphone output........if anything still too quiet.

So far the phones works best for overall volume.

So your recording dry no FX ? and then add them later ?
But isn't that kinda bad for the headphone out?
By the ways the headphone out on the GMX should have been on the front...... like the Spider... but it is a kick ass amp.............and oh yeah thanks for recommending it ...... The thing is a beast........ now I need to get some of that beast tone on tape ( Hard Drive)......
thanks bro............

I am using whatever effects preset that suits.....like a verb or delay......all in the amp. The signal is still "stereo" so to speak. I am not a big effects guy so I keep it real simple.

I don't think there could be any harm done running the phones out like that. The main reason I use the phones out is due to higher output compared to the L/R out. Otherwise I can't get enough volume in RW to hear anything. So far I am pretty happy with what I am getting sound wise.

I tried everything I could think of combination wise to get the sound from the amp to RW. So far this is the only method that has worked. Give it a go and let me know if you get a decent sound.

There shouldnt be anything wrong with the headphone out, it just a hotter line out, right? Does your amp have a Master? Crank it up to get a hotter signal and press the plus 18db in guitarport if its still too low. Maybe the channel volume channel is too low.

Ive been trying everything because Im turning into a gear slut. I agree micing is hassle but I really like the results. Now my favorite is to use the Hot Rod as a pre-amp for the line 6 models. Im using a volume pedal in the effects loop to record silently and send the signal out the tuner jack. Now I can record my tube tone through a celestion cabinet sim or whatever or I can make the line6 models sound way more, tubey. But dont get me wrong, the Line6 models pretty much rule for high gain.

Lately Ive been looking at the Hughes and Kettner Tubeman recording station. It looks so basic and very pricey but might just be what Im after. I must try it out.

I also want to try the Red Box DI box with speaker sim.

So many options, so little room on my credit card.........LOL

Yeah GS the phones line out is really nothing more than a hotter out than the L/R outputs. Even when you put both L/R to the GP the phones jack is easily twice as loud. And the stereo effects like delay sound better via the phones jack as well.

Basically I am dialling in the amp sound I want, with some delay or verb as required........and running a wet signal into the GP. I do not open GB, and do not select either hardware or effects in RW for the input. No nothing just the amp in and adjusted/tweaked accordingly.

So far it has worked great.........I have had to make some minor changes in the way I do things overall. But this is something I could not seem to get working in V1, so now I am stoked and on a mission. Too bad I am too late to submit to RR......but now I have 3 songs on the go so all is not lost.
